I don't understand the comparison to real MS to Everclear. This is two completely different things. I am a connisuer of MS and there are many differences within the MS recipes as the way it is derived or cooked.Apple Brandy is different again from MS. Store bought MS is not true MS, it is what the tourist think it is. Different parts of the south have different ways of making it. I am lucky enough to have been introduced to many different states and the way it has passed down through generations of son's, fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers. I cherish the trust and friendship of a great heritage between distinguished individuals. This is something that is shared, not a commodity.

I have a portable backpacking stove that uses either Ever Clear or MS for fuel. It also makes pretty good cleaning fluid for cleaning carpets, upholstery etc. Never really thought about drinking it, mixed or otherwise.

Pure grain alcohol (everpure) doesn't have a taste of it's own, it evaporates leaving no residue. My father built precision optics for the military and that's all they used to clean lens and parts. I had some with a mixer and found that it doesn't change the taste of the base mix. I will be making the Apple Pie recipe.

I remember my fist and last encounter with the REAL everclear. I had to haul corn the next day. Not good. Not good.

Don't use the Everclear. My wife's nephew makes his own. Smooth, kick a--' no bad head in the AM like the Everclear. JMO but I'll stay with the "shine".

I'll be in Marathon in January and south Miami in February. I think the "Apple Pie" I heard about in Gaffney was the real deal, MS with a linage! Let me know where and I'll be dancing at your door.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great info and quite a few laughs on this thread. I may be drinking this stuff tomorrow night (I'm not too good in the kitchen so I may have the FD over)

Now that we've had our fun...

Everybody does realize that the end product here is only about 23 proof...right?

That's less than half that of a liqueuer like Kahlua!
