Was wondering if there are any Aramcons out there and where have you been going to.

I believe he's referring to expats who work for ARAMCO.

That's what I got when I googled it earlier.

That is correct, thought there would be some of us out here other than myself, being wanderers by nature.

My ex-husband spent several years in Saudi working for Aramco; he really enjoyed the experience.

Not an Aramcon but did live in Dharan/Khobar/Dammam for 5 years and spent a lot of time on the Aramco compound before the change. Crazy times.
When were you there?

My husband was there in the early 90's. More recently he was in Qatar. He was associated with a joint venture.

I had to leave in 1991 due to the Gulf War. But, after 5 years in that place, I was ready.

I was there from '76 to 94. in Dhahran and Ras Tanura, with several out of kingdom assignments. Mostly really good times. I would have thought there would have been more responses.

I (the only American in the organization) was COO for Rashed Al Rashed & Sons in Khobar ('85 to '91). My office/factory was in the Dammam 2nd Industrial City out toward Abqaiq past KFMMC. A very different environment than Aramco.

Consequently, I did a lot of diving and when the wife wasn't in-country, spent time at USMTM, the Consulate and with the Marines.

Although there were a lot of people working at Aramco during your time, by any slight chance did you know Tom Dreiman?

Never worked for ARAMCO and never lived in Saudi but have visited there on many occasions. Really not my favorite place in the world but the expats working there were OK folks and I met many, including those who worked for ARAMCO. These folks kept things running and were the bright side of my visits.

Have been to Dammam, Jeddah. Riyadh, and Al Kargj many times and every other country in the ME. I know a lot of people were reasonably pleased while living in the "compounds", I generally could not wait to get on the flight to freedom as I left the country. In summarizing. I found Saudi to be the most loathing place to be in the world and I have been to some of the worlds worst armpit places having travelled to 88 countries in all continents, except Antarica. Was close while in Punta Arenas.

Hope you can reconnect with the ex ARAMCO folks. Based on my experience they were a good closeknit group.
