Escapees does have a RV Advocacy that only give members info and their Legal Defense is by donation only.
They do have a great Care Center that is non profit.

They may have helped some with emails. But their number of members is a very, very low percent compared to Good Sam members that probably sent emails and were also
instrumental along with the many other RV owners that don't belong to either Club.

Could have been a few emails from iRV2 forum members also.

Escapee's RV Club and the forums?

If you have any questions, why not simply go there and join in for a time to see for yourself? Like any forum, there are some who like it and some who don't. That same can be said of this forum, as many on Escapee's forums were once active on these forums but no longer are.

It everyone were exactly the same, we would only need one of anything! So if you have doubts, just join the Escapees forums!

It will cost you nothing but a little time.

I've been a member of escapees longer than a member here, as Kirk says, try it out nothing to lose. Lots of good info to glean from the posts. Some very smart folks technically speaking.

I think you will find that the Legal Advocacy has been much more than just a few organized (usually through the forum) emails to city officials, or just giving advice. Escapees was the driving force to get the Livingston addressed recognized in FEDERAL court as a legal physical address for all purposes in Texas, including voting. They have also been very active in making sure that a proposed extra tax on diesels was rewritten so as not to include RVs. Yes, these were focused on Texas, because that's where Escapees is located and for those of us who use their mail service (which is second to none in the country) having that assurance of having a legal physical address is important.

As Barb says, Escapees have done lobby work on some issues and in more than one state. While they are not as large an organization as Good Sam, they are also not mostly a sales group like Good Sam. They do not sell insurance, own RV stores (such as Camping World), or own any banks. Their only business is that of supporting RV folks.

We've been Escapees members for 18 years and full-timers for 16 years. We use their terrific mail service, use their home parks and have acquired some wonderful friendships through the organization.

Their CARE facility has been written up by numerous newspapers and magazines as "one of a kind". If we have a need, we will definitely use it. It is not a nursing home. Folks still live and sleep in their RVs onsite. They are served meals, have activities and receive basic nursing care in a separate building next to their RV site. They are transported to doctors appts and have their RVs cleaned and cared for. CARE can be used for short-term stays such as recuperating from surgeries or for long-term stays.

The Escapees organization has been very instrumental in speaking up for RVers rights and issues.

An off-shoot of the organization is the forum. However, it is open to ALL RVers, including non-Escapee members. Like all forums of this nature, including "iRV2", some folks ruin it by their controversial topics and rants. However, this is NOT what the Escapees organization is all about.

The club's motto from day one is "caring and sharing" and that's exactly what we have found. Caring for individuals and sharing information. It's not just an organization to get discounted camping or use the mail service. This is not the main reason people join.

There are books written describing the Escapees organization which tell of the purpose of the group for its beginning. If you want a background, please read one. Explore the main web site to see all the club has to offer. Most importantly, do not get your opinion of the club by the forum only. Enjoyable RVing to all!!

Folks,
Although the Escapees Organization is interesting, we're beginning to drift off the original topic. Thanks.

We have been Escapees members over 12 years and have enjoyed all the benefits and nice people we've met. Last year I helped with a fun raiser for the CARE center and we raised over $1,800. The CARE center is a blessing for RVers needing help with health issues.

Hi all!

On the topic of assisted living in an RV that article is correct to the best of my knowledge, I know of no other ones like it anywhere. I have visited Livingston and the CARE center and it is impressive to say the least.
