A couple of days ago while on a short trip we stopped at the Hon-Dah Casino in Pinetop, AZ. When inside we stopped at an ATM machine to get some cash. I wanted to withdraw $300.00 and after I entered all the information and as I was putting my ATM card away I noticed the cash sticking out from the slot. I was having a little difficulty getting the card back where it belonged and as I reached down to grab the cash it went right back into the ATM. I reported it to the casino staff and was given a number to call the ATM company. I was told to contact my bank and that I would have to file a Regulation E. When I got back from my trip I called my bank and they said they would take care of it but it would take about 7 to 10 days to resolve. The bank also check my account and sure enough my account was charged the $300.00. So to avoid the problem I've encountered be sure to remove your cash from the ATM as soon as possible.

I believe the purpose of that is to prevent folks walking away without their cash and the next person hitting the Jackpot. It's an example of a good idea gone wrong. Maybe the ATMs shouldn't deduct the cash until you take it? I'm sure it's a PITA.

I agree, don't use them. Just finished a 4 week trip and spent less than $300 in cash. However the numbers on the credit card are now flat.

RJay,
Seems like the ATM just relieved you of your cash a little faster than the casino would have....

I've used ATM's a gazillion times - well maybe not that many - and have never had a problem. I've also used them at Casinos without problem. Is this a new problem?

I use the one from bank and don't have problems, the Chase units do not retain the cards (at least in Oregon), you simply swipe in it and out real quick and then put it away before continuing your transaction, much like swiping your card at a gas pump.

ATM's are programed to take your card for your protection if you don't remove it within a certain time frame. Same for cash. You would not believe how many people don't pay attention and leave without their cash or card. It may be annoying at times but it is for your protection.

Same here. If we are on the road and need some cash, we use the debit card at Wally World and get a $100 cash over the cost of the goods we purchased.

ATM's that suck the card in to read will suck the card back in after a timeout period if you do not grab it. Security sort of deal. Typical bank policy is to destroy the card if not retrieved immediately. Not sure about the cash portion as I never have left the moey in the hopper long enough to have it happen.

Nope, don't gamble. I can think of better way to risk my money with better odds. We stopped at the casino because they had a very nice RV park across the street and we wanted to check it out. We went to the casino for the buffet.
