Attention Diabetics FDA Recall

Normally I would not post this type of thing in these forums but this is kind of serious.. I happen to use this class of product myself, (Though not this specific product, I use a competitor's product). And false readings are, quite literally, a matter of life and death.

I suppose there are no Diabetics on the forum. Good information, thanks.

Yep, saw it this morning, but my wife doesn't use that brand so we're "safe".

My last Diabetes class is tomorrow night, I printed it to take with me for the teachers although I don't think they issue that brand. I'm appalled at the accuracy of the meters, mine says a 25 point variance is normal____.

Accuracy

This article explains the ISO standards :

Checking Blood Sugar: Blood Glucose Meter Accuracy: How is accuracy tested?

If it were easy to make a 100% accurate home glucose system someone would be making one. Too many variables. Things like testing location, hand washing, circulation, temperature, how you store test strips, how you applied the blood...... It's amazing that they work as well as they do.

Let's remember that they are reference gauges. Once you know what your reference is then you look for a wide variance. When you see that something is going on in your system. Blood pressure monitor, blood sugar even the scales you weigh on are nothing more than a reference to let you know when something is wrong. Compare them to the doctor's office machines and then you have a reference to compare to so you can visibly see what is going on in your system.

My DW uses the ones that are recalled, and I thanked wa8xym privately for his information shortly after he posted it. Thankfully hers were not part of the recall.

Thank you Ramblin... Since this is not a medical forum I thought long and hard before posting this, Then one of the Moderators moved it to a different section he thought better (With my blessing thank you moderator).

But it is nice to get feedback telling me I helped you..

Only a few lots were recalled so odds are your Wife's strips are not being recalled.. but odds are just that.. odds.
