Be Careful out There!

Petaluma Highway 101 crash demolishes motorhome | The Press Democrat

I try to practice the "Smith System of Defensive Driving", especially the "leave yourself an out" but it is hard to do when cars keep cutting you off!

"The driver told CHP officers he was cut off by another vehicle and lost control when he swerved out of the way."

When driving large vehicles, swerving often turns out badly.

Had a car passing us on right who I observered approaching in rear view camera and side view mirror who decided to cut to left after passing us and hit his driver side rear bumper into my passenger side front bumper.
I was doing 55 and the lashing movements back and forth caused by that slight bump took all my energy to keep the 37' MH on road with semi's passing us on the left.
After passing us his car spun around and wound up hitting us dead center in the passenger front tire.
When I passed through that area of highway again I stayed over in the right lane.
Like OP suggested please be careful and observant around you.

Really good that those folks only got minor injuries.

Driving my work truck and trailers; or, pulling my RV, I assume those that are near me are going to take the space in front of me, so I prepare myself ready to slow down.

Smith System...It's a great system to follow.(All Good Kids Like Milk)

When driving high speeds I've had nothing but problems with folks doing this to me, so I've slowed down to 48 mph. Most are driving so much faster than me that it is hard for them to cut me off. I always laugh when I get a long drawn out honk from some one by my drivers window, just means that they have no driving experience. I have found that no matter how fast I drive some dumb fool with a disability plate in a under powered vehicle wants to pull out and pass. Soooo...... when I'm driving slower, it is easy for them to pass. I always take my foot off the accelerator, drop out of cruise, when some one wants to pass. Just had a semi try to pass on a hill with out enough room, had to hit the paved shoulder to prevent a head on. Fella followed me for 1/2 mile and then turned. sheeshh.....

I lived in Santa Rosa for 30 plus years, I was professional driver for 30 plus years. I have found that speed is the cause off freeway accidents because folks over drive their vehicles and road conditions. I drive my caddy eldo 75 to 80 on the freeway trips.

Times 2,
I also don't jam on the breaks for someone "merging" that has a red/yellow yield sign.
