I too love Guinness. I will drink one on a hot summer day when everyone is downing some real light beer. It is much better on draft than bottles or cans though.
A bar owner I know gave me 2 sixers of Anchor Porter. He said he couldn't sell it because it was so dark and heavy. Lucky me!

I love Guinness too, but the best I have ever had was what they served us over in their brewery in Dublin. Quite a bit better than the draft we get over here.

Tasting a Sam Adams "Merry Maker" Gingerbread Stout. Very tasty! Has a ginger nose with a warming cinnamon afterglow.

I might have missed it,, but can someone point me to a "better than average" beer brewing kit to get started with ??? I like Budweiser, so something like that would be a nice hobby... Thanks... D

Here is something which I find funny.
In Denmark (where I live when not visiting the US) Budweiser, Miller and similar beer is very pricy and therefor considered to be a top-class beer. Our local beer - Carlsberg and Tuborg - is cheaper than milk, and is regarded as "boring" because it is cheap and ready available.
In the US it seems to be exactly the opposite. Domestic beer is not "as classy" as imported beer, and certainly imported beer is more expensive. I think it is because we always want something from "somewhere else" and we are prepared to pay extra for that.
My favorite at the moment is Sierra Nevada's Extra Torpedo IPA. I am an old guy who loves to bitterness this beer has. I fully understand why younger people would prefer something easier on the pallet.

Northern brewing has one called a "Speckled Heifer " its a partial mash. Your friends will think you are a brewing genius.

monkey, try Midwest Supplies - Homebrewing and Winemaking Midwest Supplies, they have extract, partial grain (my favorite) or all grain kits everywhere from your Bud to the other end of the spectrum. Horn blowing time here: my IPA (post 118) is nice--a first try with El Dorado hops--has a nice flavor, tight finish but not too bitter even using 6 oz.

It is very difficult to brew something like Bud. I'm not sure you would really want to though since there are so many styles you could brew that would be very tasty. It does not have to be a dark beer at all. A cream ale is a good one to start with and won't be an over the top beer that will turn you immediately off on brewing.
Northern Brewer - Home Brewing Supplies and Winemaking Supplies is a great source for brew stuff and sells a good beginners kit. I moderate on their forum The Northern Brewer Homebrew Forum • Index page and use the same screen name. A very friendly place like here and also like here people are anxious to answer your questions.
However if there is a homebrew shop near you it is always nice to be able to get ingredients, gear and quick advise. I buy most of my stuff from my LHBS (local homebrew shop) to help keep him in business and the price of shipping on 50lb sacks of malt barley makes it a cheaper option anyway.

On a trip to Boston, Ma several years ago I was introduced to Edison Beer. Fell in love with it and bought it on any trip anywhere I went on if I could find it. Seems that it is no longer being brewed. Wish I could find it again!!
