Have been working on making a fifth wheel tailgate, so went out and bought a auto darkening helmet for when I start the arc welding, should be interesting to see what it is like using this type of helmet.

Worked for welding manufacturer for 40 years. Not much a welder myself, but I can tell you that you will love it. Of course, you will have to break the habit of nodding your head every time you start to strike an arc.
Nice to see your work and then just start welding and be protected.
Do not know your age, but they sell cheaters that are also great for those who need reading glasses.

Have used this and it works great. Really does good for overhead welding.

Well I am rustier than I like to be on the welding, Sure like the helmet, but as for the welding I started out on the 1/8 setting for 1/8 rod and 1/8 steel, but the 100 amps was too much, went to a size smaller rod and about 85 amps and that seems to be better, it is not a critical piece I am welding, so any weld should be good enough, but I should have practised before I started on the tailgate.
Mine is an old Sears Craftsman 180Amp A/C buzz box as they call them and still seems to work well.
Just need to get more practise in.
