Buying a campground
Anyone ever consider buying a campground and running it? I lately have been looking into this and wonder if anyone has done this or considers it too. I think it would be pretty cool to sell everything and start a new life at my own campground.

We are still kicking around that idea. Not a cheap proposition if you do it right.

The current KOA campground directory had some information on buying a campground that caught my attention. I looked at their online site and saw some that are available. I admit to being tempted.

Considering it but only after the Prize Patrol comes calling .
Actually there is a campground I'd not mind buying but funds are NOT likely to appear any time soon.

I have considered building one. There is a beautiful 10 ac commercial tract adjacent to my property, near Lake Travis. It fronts 2 state highways and is covered with 40' - 60' post oak trees. I am in the business of building infrastructure, underground utilities, streets, and drainage, so the construction cost would be lower. The problem is, I don't want to be locked in after I retire. Trying to get someone to stay and manage it in the summer might be a challenge. That's when I would want to escape to the mountains.

Isn't owning a campground the opposite of going camping? I look at campground ownership the same as dairy farming (24/7/365) except campers can come knock on your door in the middle of the night.

X2. I almost bought one many years ago. I sounded great. Fortunately, before I did it, I talked to a few other camp ground owners. I realized that I wanted nothing to do with that kind of life.

We have the property available and have considered building an RV Port-Cabana type facility for the past few years. For me it comes back to the quote above and what a wise man once told me; "consider carefully when you contemplate making your avocation your vocation." Good luck with your decision!

Looked into it many years ago. Takes a lot of money and owners' hours to build or maintain the type of CG I would like to stay at, much more than I was willing to put in.
