We have the basic Nikon D40 camera. At this time we only have the standard lense (18-55) that came with the camera and also the telephoto (55-200) with image stabilization.

My question - the 18-55 has become very hard to focus, almost as if it is locked up. Does anyone know if this can be repaired or must we purchase another one?

We are far from the camera gurus...

It may be repairable.

The best thing to do is take it to a camera shop to see if it's repairable and cost effective.
