Yesterday was Canada Day.
Normally, this would be a good time to celebrate but our Provincial Government, that is very similar to your state government, in their infinate wisdom decide to introduce a new tax for us here in Ontario and a few other provinces as well.
This new tax is called the HST or Harmonized Sales Tax and combines the old sales tax and GST to create this new tax.
It is all quite complicated but they have assured the general public that it is good for us!
They even went so far as to send just about every family, a check for various amounts of money, depending on your income to help ease this good for us tax. And they are going to send us more money. We got $300.00 so far!!
The part that totally ticks me off is some things have gone up by 7%.
Most noticeably is energy like gasoline and fuel oil and electricity to name a few items.
Overnight, gasoline went from 93.9 cents per liter to 99.9 cents per liter in our home town.
That is 30 cents a gallon more or less! You could also say about $4.50 per gallon is the new Canadian price!
Hell, I remember when gasoline cost less than 30 cents per gallon, they would put it in for you, wash the windshield, check the oil and give you Green Stamps on top of that.
I guess my age is showing. But I sure am glad that this is good for us!
I can hardly wait to get my electric bill!
