To keep both hands free for picking through merchandise while shopping or reading a magazine while the better half shops, have a look at the Tilly Endurables website. Tilly makes everything from a great floating hat with a credit card/money/drivers license pocket in it to allow you to carry all your important stuff while you are visiting the pool deck at the Sunnyvale Nudist Camp, to a pick pocket proof travelers vest that will carry food, water, camera, flashlight, swiss army knife, walking stick (or baton) while keeping your money, passport, etc. secure from skilled pick pockets. It can even be packed with all the heavy stuff on the "off" side to keep the load balanced if you feel the need to "pack" while seeing the sights in National Monuments or troubled suburbs.

I guess no one has ever heard of scott vest (goggle that) only like 20 pockets in a vest, my wife she likes the big zippered pocket in the back, like a hidden back pack
2007 Forest River fifth wheel toy hauler 385 RLTS, 1999 Freightliner FL-60 with Western Hauler bed, new 3126B CAT motor, new Allison MD3060 transmission, air ride rear suspension, air ride cab, air ride seats
I wear my phone, leatherman kit, and other stuff in belt holders. And when I travel by air I have several multi pocket travel vests that everything i can take onboard goes in a pocket and that goes in the screening belt at airports and does not count as a carry-on.
I have a shoulder bag if needed for travel but generally only use it for travel or sightseeing etc.
So like I noted, whatever works for the individual..For many years men in Europe have carried a "murse". I have a holster for a tablet and sometimes use that when I don't wear a vest or carry my shoulder bag.
Sorry but I wouldn't get caught dead carrying a murse, purse, satchel or whatever. If it can't clip to my belt somehow I leave it at the RV.
When my wife asks me to hold her purse, I hold it like a dead rat. LOL
That's just me, I see all kinds of guys using various items. Just won't be me.
