What is that app? I just got my first "spam" text today. I guess it's true...you can run, but you can't hide.

The thing to remember thou, while we may not like nor want the robo calls for the politicians, it is still legal for them to call. It is also still legal for charities to also call to ask for money. No matter if you are on the do not call list or not.
As to why I still put the cell's on there, well it's just a CYMA thing.

Except when we're away from home, the only time our cell is switched on is when we are going to call someone. In the last 8 years, we've used a total of 24 minutes of air time.

We haven't seen any "missed calls" from telemarketers yet. I don't know if you get dinged for a charge if you don't answer.

The app for the droid is called Call Control powered by EveryCall.

Analysis: This online rumor has been circulating continuously since September 2004. Despite a very small grain of truth at its core, it's mostly false, outdated, and misleading. Here's what you need to know:
  • Yes, you CAN add your cell phone number(s) to the National Do Not Call Registry.
  • No, you WON'T suddenly be at the mercy of 10,000 telemarketers if you don't.
  • Contrary to what's claimed, cell phone numbers are NOT about to "go public."
Background
It's true that a few years back several of the major wireless providers announced a plan to establish a universal cell phone directory, but the plan did not consist of simply publishing everyone's cell phone numbers for the world to see, nor were the numbers to be "released to telemarketers" as claimed above. The directory was to be made available only via telephone, only to those who dialed directory assistance and paid a fee, and only with individual wireless customers' consent.

When I fill out online forms that require a phone number to complete I use (123) 456-7890. Hasn't failed me yet.
Maybe I should enter my "congressional representatives' " number instead? See how they like it!

Hey, I think that is a fantastic idea! That is one of the reasons I got rid of my house phone. They can't stop the politicians from calling and they are more annoying than the telemarketers by far.

Here's how to find your representative's email, phone, and address:
OpenCongress - 112th Congress - Track bills, votes, senators, and representatives in the U.S. Congress

I have had my cell # for about 10 yrs. and changed to it because I was getting too many unwanted calls. I have gotten some since and have gotten rid of most. One I can't get rid of is Card Holder services. I called my bank about it because I send my credit card payment to Card Services and I thought they were the same. He told me they are aware of them but can't do anything because they are from out of the country. I have turned them in to DNC several times with little or no effect, I have told them to take me off their calling list and kept them on the line as long as I could, giving them phony info and then telling them I was as full of BS as they are, then they hang up.

Well...rumor or not, I called the 'do not call' registry last week because my mother in law told me to in an e-mail and at 85 years of age she, well, knows EVERYTHING! Bob

REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON. It takes about 20 seconds.

Tele marketers are painful. If we get one phoning I ask the caller to hang on while I get the "homeowner" and place the phone next to the radio and walk away. Couple minutes later I'll pick the phone back up and tell the telemarketer the "homeowner" will be right down. You can have a lot of fun with these folks, just use your imagination. The don't employ the real smart ones...Have Fun

And it never hurts to ask to be removed from their call list. They may not actually do it but most will.
