Is it me, or did the wheels turn at times? Even going backwards a bit? That would indicate to me that there was something amiss other than this guy being 'stupid'. I'm thinking he lost a tranny and possibly the rearend. I mean, he couldnt have dragged it that far before popping the tires and he said he was a couple miles from home. Leads me to believe he had already towed quite a ways..

My previous post about Southwind owners was of couse a joke. But I just rememberd an incident we had caravaning with a friend to Daytona...a Southwind owner.

We're following them and they are pulling a trailer on I-10. The single axel trailer blew the right tire. I called him immediately and he ackowledged. He kept going.... Huh!

After the tire was gone, the sparks started flying, and I mean a 12ft rooster tail in the daylight. I called again an he finally pulled over. The wheel was of course destroyed, but the sparks were coming from the bottom of the leaf spring.

He had ground the U bolt nuts right off the leaf springs and the axel had moved back 4" on the right side.

When I asked him why he didn't stop at my first call, he says: there was an exit 7 miles down the road.

So instead of stopping, changing the tire with 1 of 2 spares, we were 6 hrs getting the trailer fixed with an untold amount of money. what is wrong with some people?

Tire endurance road test. It passes if there is some rubber left when he gets it home in two miles. The state allows him to drive????

All I did was copy and paste the url from the video. Was there some embedded code I didn't see? Or did I accidentally hit a hot key for centering? Like bold?

I don't think we can tell what happened now but if you copy the URL from your address bar at the top of the page, there should be no problem.

I had most of the audio muted because the guy kind of irritated me but did the same guy that was driving in the rain with one hand, filming and calling the highway patrol call the other driver a dumb a$$?

It would have been a story book ending if he had pulled into a Walmart parking lot

Okay now, if you are the owner of the Southwind in the video, step up and tell us who you are.

Yeah, right!

I wondered about that, too.

The wheels did turn. When the pinion gear is locked (such as when the tranny is in park), the differential will allow one wheel to turn backwards when the the one is turning forward; the wheel with the most traction at the time will turn forward. That is why the tires were destroyed all the way around instead of just flat spotted. Had the parking brake been set, the tires would have flat spotted and would have failed much sooner.

I thought it, but I refrained from saying it
He was quite a while on his cell phone, didn't pull over.....
which could have caused a different ending.
