ok show of hands, how many people are taking a mortgage deduction on their coaches as a second home, because it has a toilet? eg is that a tax subsidy? One's home?

Why should Grandma subsidize an extravagant lifestyle Grandma herself cannot afford?

Where should one draw the line? Ok for us (figuratively speaking), but not them?

Post up your tax return before throwing stones about who goes to the well.

EXACTLY LandBarge, well said, course I agree totally, have an electric car, love it and certainly would not have bought it without the tax credit, but thats all just me. With all the legal tax breaks I can find, I do not APPROACH the legal tax dodges that oil companies and other windfall profit organizations get and use and many sell for cash to others. all just my opinion.

Indeed it is. But it is also difficult to discuss such things without tempers flaring over deeply held, conflicting points of view. So we will insist that this thread focus on the technical side of Volt and EV and avoid any attempt to discuss the political aspects, e.g. subsidies, government ownership, etc. We have a lot of history to show that any mention of a politically-oriented issue will quickly devolve into personal remarks and recriminations and our intention is to avoid that sort of thing at all costs.

Discussing "the technical side of Volt and EV" would be off topic for this thread, based on the OP's apparent intent.

Yes, but as we all know, threads wander from the original posters intent all the time. Discussing "the technical side of Volt and EV" is both informative and interesting. The science and engineering of this mode of transportation could be a victory in the quest to lower energy costs.

everyone who has a mortage can itemize deductions on their 1040 and pay less taxes on the money they earned.

of the eight million? cars sold per year, only 7,000? get the volt tax break.
the volt taxbreak is targeted to the few. that is what makes it different. the other 8 millon car buyers don't get the break.

as i uderstand it, the 1040 AMT eliminates the mortgage deduction for those with an extravagant lifestyle. but that certainly is off topic.

so your view about mortgage interest is apples and oranges.

by,the way, just in case it matters, i don't have a home mortage.

would you like to answer my question in post 267 ??
(same question to ann e gene)
or is a total energy ROI off topic?

I agree that discussion of "the technical side of Volt and EV" is more interesting and more relevant to RVing than the politics surrounding the Volt's evolution and manufacture, but that is not what THIS thread is about.

I don't think we should just ignore the topics and change them to something more interesting and informative. Doing so destroys the value of the threaded topic-driven nature of online forums. New threads should be started instead. This gives future visitors some hope of searching for and finding information they need. Which, in the end, is the lasting value of forums such as this, and should be the focus of the moderators, imo.

Moderators are here to:
A: Determine if a topic is relevant to the overall theme of the forum (RVing)
B: Keep the discussion of that topic on-track
C: Deal with any rule violations that occur. (admonish/delete/censor/ban/etc)

Just my 2 (off-topic) cents.

I believe this thread has outlived its usefulness and perhaps it should be locked. The are many dedicated forums related to EV's to support any opinion.

Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that and get back to productive conversations about RV'ing.

So the govt. Owns stock in gm and decides to offer a tax incentives to buy their product.
How can anyone defend this as being fair to Ford,Chrysler etc?

Realty is if the product is worthy consumers will belly up and make the purchase based on value.

Propping up sales of a govt. Owned entity with our tax dollars is greasy and contrary to the free enterprise system!
