Chevy Volt - an American success story.
The five(5) year plan is working. There were 125 Chevy Volt automobiles sold in all of July 2011.

Before you know it WalMart will be forced by municipalities to provide charging stations for electric vehicles as they travel the nations.
The municipalities will have eliminated the RV's from WM parking lots. Sad for WM, RVer's know how to shop in volume -- I think a Volt can carry 3 pounds of product(with 1 passenger).
But seriously, if a demand for charging stations were to explode, the network of campgrounds across US/CAN/MEX could find themselves with a whole new market. Just a thought.

Since the Volt went into production a year ago they have sold just over 2,000 and that includes the purchases by us - the federal government. Without the feds the numbers go down. If you buy a Volt the feds send you $7,500 of the tax payers money and if you live in California that state sends you an additional $5,000 of their tax payers money.

AND, they do not lower your "carbon footprint" as that electricity is mostly coming from coal fired power plants.

Yeah, but now the EPA wants to close down some of the coal-fired electrical power plants......

If it is such a success.. Why did the CEO of GM ask the government to put an additional one dollar a gallon tax on gasoline so people would be encouraged to buy the Volt?
I was,,,, Considering it.... Till that happened.

Excellent point. Two years ago we were in a CG in Angel's Camp, Ca and I couldn't believe it when a TESLA pulled in to the site next to me. They got out, plugged in and set up a picnic lunch while it charged! Sure would have loved a chance to drive that little number.

There's even more to admire about the TESLA.
Elon Musk, the CEO, received a nearly half billion "loan" from the Dept of Energy. He also got over a quarter billion in a IPO.
In all the contracts it states Musk need not be a full time, hands on man. The roadster will cease production. Kinda makes the Volt small potatoes after all things are considered.
Have you ever said to yourself: "If I could be 21 again and know what I know now, I'd be a Billionaire". Who said "Stop the spending".???

If I may, I have one really hard question about electric cars.
One. they run on a ''bank of batteries''
Two. These batteries must be charged from a outlet that has electricity made by a coal fired facility.
Three. I read somewhere that ''energy can not be made or destroyed, it can only be transferred from one thing to another''... (correct me on this if necessary)
Four .... Batteries wear out and no longer produce or hold a charge over time.
Five... What will be the cost of replacing the batteries in this Volt car when they ceas to function properly and what will happen to the ''old batteries'' when they are no longer usable?
Six. My great fear is that the cost of battery replacement will simply replace the cost of gasoline and all the money you ''saved'' by going electric will be paid back in the battery replacement. This applies to the ''combination, gas/electric cars also.........
Seven. JMHO and I am probably wrong....
any input on this would be appreciated...
God bless our troops and keep them safe ....
