I know---and I don't need a lecture, that campgrounds can charge what they want, discriminate who they want, allow only Class A's, not allow pop-ups, tents or whatever---but this one really "frosted" me. We have stayed at the Empress Casino RV Park-Joliet, Ill on many occasions and paid their going rate less the Good Sam discount. The other morning I was reading the NASCAR results and happened to look at the up-coming schedule and saw "Chicagoland Speedway" for July 10. I about dropped off my chair---its the same weekend we have planned to be in the Chicago area with family visiting (July 7 thru July 11) and I had not made a reservation. Well I immediately called what used to be our favorite campground facility---"The Empress Casino" and the girl told me that they have a back-in site available---however instead of the $32 daily rate---it will now be $100 per nite---as their is a NASCAR race in Joliet during that time period. I explained that I was not going NASCAR racing but we were visiting family in Riverside, IL. Also asked her if they do this "gauging" quite often???? Asked if being Good Sam made a difference----none of the above. Well, I didn't go into a rage with her---as I realized that she is just the clerk----the messenger----but they will never again see our rig in their property again. I then called another of our favorite Chicagoland RV Parks-----"Windy City Campground" in Tinley Park, IL------ and the girl answering ---after I asked to make a reservation---asked "are we in for the NASCAR Race"??-----I explained no---that we had stayed with them in the past---and we had family in Riverside, IL that we planned to visit. She asked the size of our unit----whether it had slides or not----and said she had a spot for us and at the regular $32 per night rate (less the Good Sam discount). Guess where I will be staying on all future Chicago visits???? Be careful who you think you are being loyal to---they may turn around and sh$t on you in a New York second. PJRACER (did we get lucky or what???)
