Coach fire this morning

Awakened about 5:15 this morning to the sounds of sirens entering the park only to look out the front window and see flames about 60' in the air on the street accross from us. Luckily our friends (Big Al and Novella) were able to get out of the coach with no injuries. Report was that the fridge started on fire. Their coach is a total loss and the lanai's on either side were damaged as well.
We are wintering at Emeral Pointe RV Resort in Zephyrhills, Fl.

Steve N Sal:

Wow !!...... another refrigerator fire ???? Glad this Al and Novella got out O.K. It's an awful COLD morning to be driven from your rig,...at least up here in Silver Springs.

Just curious,.....if it was the refrigerator, is it the same brand that's been the source of so many such fires all over the country??

Yes it was/is still cold out. About 42 right now. As far as the refrigerator brand I do not have any info on that. If I should hear I will post something.

If I had a Norcold in my rig, at my own cost I would pull that thing out. Theres no chance I would take a risk. I'm betting most folks out there have no idea that there is an ongoing issue with those fridges. Well thankfully no one was injured.

When we bought the Class A earlier this year, the very first thing I did, before sleeping in it even one night, was to replace the cooling unit with one of the Amish-made units! Our lives are worth FAR more than what that cost me!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sorry to hear about their loss but as long as they are alright, everything else is replaceable. When we bought our MH last May, we found out our Norcold had a recall for this very thing and had it repaired free of charge. But now I am beginning to worry.

I am curious if this Nevercold was running on electric or propane at the time of the fire? I may be wrong but it seems to me there might be less of a chance of a fire on ac due to the absense of an actual flame to ignite. Any studies on this?

I truly must have the exception on the fridge. My 4 door norcold cools down quickly, makes plenty of ice, and run it on both propane and ac without any problems. (so far)

What model of the Amish made unit did you use? Where did you get it?

Mine cools great, but is not of the 1200 series that, I believe are the ones that flame. Its an 821.
Third rig, third Norcold. A small one.

Can anybody tell more?

There is a thread around here about a Class Action against Norcold.. You might call their attention to it if they had a Norcold. Or even if they had a Dometic.

Now that we have business out of the way..... Glad they made it out OK, Terrible to loose everything Hope they had good insurance.. I'm going to upgrade mine a bit this summer.
