The first criteria for being chosen for the "final 4" is that you must win your conference. Let's just end this never ending quandary at that. Don't care how good a teams is, if you can't win your conference, you don't get a chance to win the national championship......

Given the size of the major conferences today, there is no reason for the big schools to play outside conference games against "second tier" schools (money to those second tier schools aside). However, in deference to some long time rivalalies that cross conferences (USC - Notre Dame, FL-FL State, GA-GA Tech), my suggestion is that the FBS teams must play all games within their conference with the exception of up to 2 non conference games but those must also be against FBS schools.

To make up the money to the second tier schools, create a pot (I know, socialism and all that) that you divvy up some funding from the FBS schools and pass on to the second tier conferences........

The reality is, most of these top level teams play maybe 3-4 "competitive" teams a year, at most. Can't do anything about in conference teams that are not competitive, but there no reason to pad your schedule........

Wonder why top college quarterbacks often don't make it in the NFL? They have never had to play at 100% game in and game out in college........... They can get by being mediocre 75% of the time and still win most games with great stats when they have teams that are simply overwhelming to most of their competitors. Play like that in the pros, and you won't have much of a winning career, if they make it at all (Stafford, Bradford, RG III, Manziel (OK, he's just a mess), um, some guy named Tim Tebo, and anyone remember Gino Teretta?, etc. vs. a Ben Rothelsberger from the "powerhouse" (not) Miami of OH for instance......) Which is why I think guys from these smaller schools, or even mediocre big schools (at the time they are playing at least), that have to play at their best all the time in college to win, or even be competitive, often are better pro QBs.......
While I agree you should win your conference, just comical how it’s such a big deal this year while hardly mentioned last year when OSU got in. The committee has said from day 1 that conference championships are not a requirement.

Maybe so....but....the BCS all came about because of 2 teams from the same conference playing for the championship after the LSU/Bama championship game in 2012.

I hated shoveling snow. We had a hill just north of the driveway. I used to help my Dad put up the snow fence every year. That saved me a bit of work later...

Frost will hopefully be a long term successful coach. I'm behind the Nebraska kid 100%.

Tennessee update. Just announced they're getting close to a deal with Jeremy Pruitt DC for Alabama as new UT head coach.

Short memories. It was a big deal. Maybe not in sec country.

One more thing. Almost no one that watched the PSU/OSU game actually thought that PSU was better than OSU. OSU won every category except the score. It happens.

Only Bama fans watched the Auburn game and actually think BAMA is better than Auburn. They may win the playoff but they're not even the best team in the sec west. Like several ESPN commentators after the game...... " I can't honestly say that I'm sure bama would beat Wisconsin right now." Then they all started to drink the Kool-Aid and back up from what they said the day before.

How is it possible for a playoff final 4 if you have to win your division? There are 5 major conferences. The SEC shares revenues, maybe that's why they are the most successful division. If there was an 8 team playoff this year there would be 3 SEC teams in, that would upset more people. There is no easy solution.

Just because you would win your conference doesn't get you into the final 4, but to get into the final 4 you have to win your division........... Expanding to 8 teams, yes, you'd probably end up with multiple teams from the same conference, which I would not have any issue with.

On the other hand, and I'm saying this as a huge fan of the game of football in general, is it all really that important? . I do try to keep a (somewhat, at least) reasonable perspective on this.........

Going up to 8 and adding a couple at large bids might add to the Nov/Dec excitement. All college football fans are excited in Sept.

There was very little uproar about PSU/OSU. Luckily, not everyone thinks it comes down to a single game and only the games in November count. We should forget about losing by 15 on your home field and by 31 to an unranked team because OSU won the Big 10 title game? Wisconsin has a better argument than OSU about being in the playoff. Auburn was better than Alabama that day, unfortunately you can't forget about Auburn losing 2 other games. Amazing how people want to forget about the regular season and losses. Think we should start the season in November and forget about about September and October, would definitely make alot of fans happy

Only if we're trying to get the best 4 teams in the playoff. I heard at least one of the committee members say the 4 best teams. Not the most deserving. Not the one with the best schedule. Is it best wins, worse losses, etc. Does it matter more if the team was ranked gametime or at the end of the season? Can you lose 2 games and get in? So far I'm pretty sure bama only beat one ranked team. If you take away the name they wouldn't have made it this year IMO.
Having said all that. ....good luck in the playoff. Not rooting against you for sure.

So lets pick the teams with the best record in November and forget September and October. Bama beat 2 top 25 teams and OSU beat 3 teams. 1 team lost to a top 10 team by 12 on the road and the other team lost by 15 to the #2 team at home and by 31 to an unranked team on the road, But lets ignore all of that. Again, Wisconsin is more deserving than OSU. Seems you like the rest of the country has Bama fatigue, I get it. But at least acknowledge losses mean something during the regular season, especially 31 to an unranked team, what a joke
