Controlling/Combat Mosquitoes at Campsite
How do you control / combat mosquitoes at your campsite? Perhaps because of all the rain we had in midwest this year they are really bad.
Besides the usual use of Deet & other repellants, is there something perhaps better to keep them off of you?
Our home base campground purchased a fogger and once a week they drive the campground and fog.
I picked up a fogger at the local hardware store and try and fog in between times. You don't see much of those mosquito magnets any more. They were popular for a while, but do they work?
I had also read a while back where you can spray your deck and areas with regular Listerine mouth wash will keep them away. Has any one tried this?
Share your best tactics to combat those little suckers!!

From what I've read......nothing works. I believe if you use as many repellent methods as possible, you may get results. Not like the old days of DDT.....everything died.

When arriving at a CG, I have a sprayer for insectacide, and I spray the area with a mixture of permethrin at one ounce to gallon. Works for me. Oh, it is the 38% one bought at feed store. It really is a termite treatment.

In addition to all the above, if you can have a fan to keep the air moving, that'll help as they can't land on you as easy if there's a breeze.
Also most mosquitos hang around in the 1st 4ft from the ground. If you can get above that you'll stand a better chance. However, this advice probably only works for those that have a rooftop deck.

Best strategy is to stay inside a screened area. Too many nasty germs in mosquito bites to sit outside. A friend gave us one of those 'tennis racket' battery powered bug killers from Harbor Freight. It doesn't eliminate ALL bugs but it gives a satisfying snap, crackle, frying sound when you do make contact with the little pests!

Unless you can get the mosquito breeding grounds cleaned, you will continue to have them show up. Insecticides around your campsite are only a very temporary solution. Mosquitos breed in still water - ponds, irrigated fields, water left in old tires, etc. They will fly about 1/2 mile away from where they hatch which is the reason the local insecticides just aren't very effective. I use DEET when I have to, and screen rooms more. Sigh. I liked living in the midwest, but I never did like the skeeters. Now I live in Utah with mosquitos only when the fields get irrigated.

Citronella candles help along with a couple of fans to keep the air moving.

BIL has a propane skeeter trap and said it works really well. Large one that can be used for about 3/4 acre area.

We depend on our screen tent with an electric fan inside, along with a generous application of insect repellent!

I have found that those little off burning rings works really well. The kind that are shaped like a coil and go in a little ceramic burner. Two or three of those do a good job.
Like someone else said, a box fan of any sort aimed right at you, and the little boogers can't stop.
Thin long sleeved shirt and thin pants, although sometimes they will bite right through.
Skin so soft spray, and regular Off.
I come from the land of mosquitoes.

Invite me over to your campsite! Mosquitoes will fly right past perfectly acceptable human targets to drink my blood! Works every time! Ugh!

Thermacell. The one that clips on your belt works better than the table top model because you never get outside of its range
