Dead Horse Theory...

The tribal wisdom of the Lakota Sioux, passed on from generation to generation, says that,
"When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount."

However, in government, education, and in corporate America, more advanced strategies are often employed, such as:

1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
4. Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures ride dead horses.
5. Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
6. Reclassifying the dead horse as living-impaired.
7. Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse..
8. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
9. Providing additional funding and/or training to increase dead horses performance.
10. Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance. 11. Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, it is less costly, carries lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do some other horses.
12. Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.
13. Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position.

Not to start an International Incident or anything, but...

Is that a shot from British Columbia at the United States?
I live just across the water, so you understand my concern...

Or is your use of the word "America" meant to include all of North America?

Well Francesca, even if it was a "shot" at the US, slander wouldn't be an option, as it is dead on accurate.

Being a Federal employee, I've seen just about all those "solutions" thrown at the proverbial "dead horse".

ROFLMAO

Thanks Possum, I needed a good chuckle today.

Sounds like the organizational concepts that were utilized by the Post Office for the 10 years I worked there.

I wasn't thinking slander, exactly- I don't question the validity of the theory...
I'm just surprised at the implication that things are so different in Canada...

Unless as I said the word "America" is intended in its broader sense!

Substitute the word " world" for America. then you have a universal truth.

Not pointing fingers anywhere Francesca; the only reason I posted it that way is that it came to me from dear friends who lives in NY State. They are proud owners of a once very successful business, one that has been paying the maintenance on these political dead horses for years.

We (Canadians) have too many dead horses of our own, galloping about Ottawa and the various provincial capitals to be pointing anything at anyone.

Well, that's what I thought you meant- just wanted to be sure!
I'm a great admirer of Canada myself...one of my ancestors came from there as did my favorite RV.
And you're w-a-a-a-y ahead of us when it comes to some things (Health Care comes to mind).
But it's a funny thing about being an American (or a Canadian, I'm sure)-
while we might complain and criticize our system, some of us feel obliged to take exception when others do so...

Glad to hear there's no border war brewing!
