Death in Arkansas
On the front page of our local newspaper, the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette, there is a picture of an RV, with the caption under it of a 56 year old Arkansas man who got killed with his RV collapsed. Some of you more computer savvy people might know how to post a link to this picture. This is a sad reminder that an RV isn't exactly the best place to be during a violent storm.
Stay safe,

Hey Grumpytrkr,
Class A motorhomes are much safer than trailer park, class c, and class b's are. Most A's have a pretty good frame and are weight to volume positive. In a storm, put your jacks down, don't park under trees, one hand on your butt and the other on the biggest cross you can find.

And if possible, put your tail to the wind like horses do.

In 20+ years of driving truck, I've had a truck hit by lightning, had a pup trailer try to swap ends during a really bad thunderstorm, and watched funnel clouds go in several different directions. I spent the summers on my Uncle's Farm in Southern Indiana, and have seen what a tornado can do. I don't want to be in an RV of any type during one.
It has been a couple of years ago, but there was a tornado that went through a trailer park in Florida, and everything was stacked on top of each other.

I think that is why they have wheels So you can move to a safer place.

Others have said to raise your jacks and un-hook electrical to keep from grounding your RV. Does this make sense?

I found the AP photo, but neither it nor another explain how this might've happened.

From the strory attached to the video link above:
In Pulaski Couuny, a man was killed when a tree fell on his RV at 25509 River Road. Pulaski County Sheriff's Department Lt. Carl Minden identified that victim as James Loftis, 56.

Most class A's are now safer than a TT or 5er. Yes they have more frame on the bottom, but they are basically built with the same top structure. So once it rolls over or something lands on top of it, it will crushed like an egg shell.

That is a stick and tins TT - no upper structer to speak of - not that any RV would fair much better should a large tree fall on them. Be wise out there folks - bad time of year for these things.

Agreed - This happens every Spring. Our upcoming trip prompted me to buy one of these: Amazon.com: MIDLAND HH50 Pocket Weather Radio: Electronics
Cheap insurance and it has a built weather alarm.
Go Safely.

Whatever happened to the Winnie ads that showed a Winnie dropped on its roof to the ground?

I've been in almost everything with wheels dodging storms.
Do I run?
Hail yes!
