Dedicated Woman
My wife and I celebrated our 45th anniversary today. Man how time does fly! We sold the sticks and bricks last month and are looking for another home base. Meanwhile we are full timing in the MH. It get's dicey from time to time but I think she's stuck with me.

Only have 39 under our belts, and I can't say I've kept good track of them all. But we will probably be doing the same soon, Full Time that is .
A word of caution , maintain an address , with family , the USA customs has been know to throw a fit if you give any indication that you are full timers, when you cross the border. A wrong answer to the question of " Who's looking after your house" could have you denied entry.
If you plan to travel in the USA before you re-purcase , sticks and bricks, enter with caution.

Having lived for six months in a 23 foot fifth wheel and celebrating 30 years of marriage there in the North Dakota Oil Patch last winter, my husband has made the observation that after returning to our home in Iowa I am not as nice as I was in that tiny space. I told him more room here to punch and run.

Looking for another home base.... Excapees has an article on their web site "How to become a Texan" seems they have a bunch of houses you can rent.. True, they are about the size of a shoebox (Well mail box) but ... You can legally live there and full time RV.

Mr_D. I can't provide a link , or even name the law involved. What I do know about it is that it states" visitors to the USA are required to have significant ties , to their home nation, to insure they will be returing to that nation in a timely fashion." What I have read on this may have been in Canadian publications, but I thought that I'd seen some refererece to the problem here in the forums. Enforcement ; when applied to Canadian Full Timers; can come down to the whim of an individual Customs Agent .
When crossing into the USA, with my RV, I have always been asked , destination, length of stay and amount of cash on board. In-laws were asked "Who's looking after your home" on their first RV trip; sister-in-law said the question made here feel "kind of creepy" about the security of their home.
I'll dig around here, and in other spots to see if I can come up with the name of the law and re-post. S

Thanks Skip, good advice! We still have some property in Alberta with a mailing address so I think we are good for now. We have been questioned at the border a couple times about address and length of stay and they certainly want a definite answer.
Thanks to all for the replies!

Mr_D,
U.S.Internal Revenue Service Forms
8840 Closer Connections
W8-BEN Certificate of Foreign Status
also
8840 closer connection form W8-BEN Certificate of Foreign Status U.S. internal revenue service forms US Tax Forms CSA : Canadian Snowbird Association
discribes some of the issues , but you need to be a Snowbirds Ass. Member to gain further access.
The 8840 form has a formula for calculating the length of stay allowed before, a Canadian would be required to pay U.S. Income Tax.
Still looking for the Denied Entry story.Skip426
