Diamonds at Crater of Diamonds SP in AR

Heading to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas on Monday - 28 April for a few days. Anyone find any diamonds there? Sounds like a fun place to spend a few days and people actually do find diamonds from time to time and they are yours to keep I understand. Look for us in the headlines next week

Never actually been there but seen a show on the Travel Channel about it. Some people find diamonds and yes if you find them they're yours to keep. Good Luck and have a great time.

Went there several years ago. Campground is perfect, concrete pads and all. When we left, my GPS had me go to the right. The gravel road got narrowe and narrower. Had to cross several creeks. Had the wife notify her son where we were, in case we hit a "Deliverence" scene. Finally made it to civilization, and survived the ordeal. Never found any diamonds. Eddie Elk.

VERY nice park! They rent shovels and buckets, yet might consider taking your own. After watching their videos in the history/museum area, seems most diamonds are not found out in the open, but in the immediate where rain water run-off causes the most soil erosion. Check out the videos before you start digging. Dress comfortably and be prepared to walk long distances as the diamond field is HUGE.

Been there Many years ago,,, before Rv'ing... Was a Beautiful State park... Big pine trees,,,, very clean... They (used to) plow the diamond fields from time to time to unearth things... The visitor center has a nice place to show you what to look for,,, and the history. Diamonds have been found very deep... There used to be a shaft there from commercial diamond mining.. (fenced off) . Try this,,,,
Diamond Mine - Where Diamonds are Found - Crater of Diamonds - Arkansas Diamond Mine
Whatever you find is yours to keep.... Have a great time,,,, Darel

Adding to the positive reviews. Haven't found any diamonds but lots of interesting stones. The rv park is beautiful with full hook ups and 50 amp service. Sites are beautifully wooded.

One of my favorite places, but as one poster mentioned check the maps for both your egress and ingress plans, you can find some "interesting"roads in the area!

You can hunt for opals at a mine in Nevada, but they charge you $60/day. Arkansas is only $8/day.

On Thursday (4/17/14)

A man who was hunting for precious stones at Crater of Diamonds State Park found a

"6.19-carat White Diamond"

The stone is about the size of a jelly bean and is the 15th-largest diamond unearthed at the park.

You have the same chance at winning the lottery, a lot less dirty & sweaty, but a lot less fun. Go for it. We did it when the temps were around 100 degrees.

n5pht, how did your trip go? We are planning a trip out west next year and this looks like it might be fun. Did you have to book the campground in advance or where there lots of vacancies?

We enjoyed it. No diamonds but was fun and unusual experience. We booked in advance but if during the week it would prob be easy. Sit 44 was nice and worked for our portable satellite.
