Disappointed in Camping World Service Dept
We had to take our Winnebago Brave back to the Ft Myers Camping World because things they should have done... when we picked up the rig for the first time... was not done. (ie) the pin that holds the tire extension was missing - we found the stem had fallen behind the first tire during the walk thru .. so they took it back in the bay to fix it ..but they didn't have the clip so sure as we drove off... the stem fell behind the first tire again. When I when to check the air pressure I couldn't ...
Also learned that the $400.00 service fee we paid - which we were told was like a "predelivery" fee... where they would go thru the coach and anything thing they found needing fixed ... they would do that before we left... but later when we voiced our disappointment to the GM that so many things were not fixed or even found until we did our walk thru and couldn't complete it becuz of the repairs NOT done... did the GM tell us that wasn't predelivery but a "Dealer's fee" .... I was floored and now I really don't trust their service dept. When I asked for the service record of what all had been checked and done... I was told it would be emailed to me cuz the tech wasn't done with it. Sorry that doesn't seem right to me. So I am just letting others know of our disappointment in CW and their service dept.

Campers World does not, has not, probably never will have a good reputation as a repair facility, especially for things best left to a real dealer like the one who made your RV.
If you go thru and look at threads, or other blogs or even google "campers world", you will find horror stories a plenty highlighting their incompetancies.
They are great for buying some items when you first start RVing, they will normally do an "acceptable" job installing some things when you cant get to a dealer or home shop, they should NEVER be used (IMHO) for anything chassis specific or overly technical. A "Jack of All Trades" is NOT someone you want fixing your chassis !!!
Once you get into RVing you will find multiple better sources for RV Parts and accessories that when used with a little foreplanning will save you extensive money over CW.

Good service consistency is a goal that has eluded CW and you will find many posts regarding that on this forum. It all depends on the management in place at a given location. It shouldn't be this way but regardless of where you take your RV, or the company involved, you are going to have to check over the work done. Keep your receipts because there is a good chance you are going to need them. The more repairs you can do yourself the better off you will be. Like I said, it shouldn't be this way, but it is.

Ouch. That really stinks to be treated that way. Thanks for sharing your experience.
We've always found CW an excellent place to stock up on RV toilet paper and black tank chemicals.

Really, really sorry to had to go thro that experience. Unfortunately Camping World seems to have pretty poor service reputation all round. I like their store, but never use their service.

Thank Heaven..... I thought it was just me that was disgusted with Camper World when it came to service.
My big error was letting them put my Banks System on my coach. The short version is this.
They had my coach for about one month trying to get the Banks headers on the engine.
They said nothing about removing items from the referigator and everything rotted because the left it unplugged from shore power
They wanted to charge me in excess of FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS LABOR plus the cost of the Banks exhaust kit for the job because they did not have a competent mechanic that had ever done this job before.
In my opinion I would not let these clowns change my lawn mower blades much less work on my coach again.
I have no problem paying for what I get but when it comes to paying ''Goober'' from ninety to one hundred and twenty five dollars an hour to ''tinker'' with my coach and do his ''learning on the job'' I have a tenancy to balk at this .
I was a business man for some twenty five years and if I had ran my business the way they run their service department ... I WOULD HAVE BEEN BROKE VERY QUICKLY.....
just my opinion ......

I refuse to use such a broad brush. Some are bad but some are good. It all depends on the people that work at each location. I have had good results at the CW near me but I'm just as sure that some others have had what they consider terrible service. It's the same with campgrounds, hardware stores and restaurants. Everyone has an opinion.

IMHO it depends on the management of a particular Camping World. I have had good service from the Rogers, MN Camping World. They have put on new tires, satellite antennas, repaired a toilet seal and hot water heater. In fact we're getting new dual tires next month from them.

But it depends on the location. I have a very good Camping World near me and have had several things done, including new tires, complete tow package including wiring and base plate install.
I am fortunate but seems to be based on the local management.
Also I have had some bum work over last 22 years from places other than Camping World.

It all depends on who is running the service department. Personally, I wouldn't let CW work on anything of mine because of their hidden charges, incompetent mechanics, etc. Remember, the majority of the mechanics in the RV Industry are not mechanics, they are part replacers.

I gather you bought your RV at Camping world... Now, CW is a chain, and from what I've read there are some fantastic CW's out there who will bend over backwards to make the customer happy.. Some which are.. kind of Ho=Hum, and some which are... Well, lets just say you know about those and leave it at that.
IF, that is indeed where you bought your RV,, and possibly even if it is not. Then based on what I read in your letter you may wish to visit your state's (or to be more precise their state's) DMV (Department of motor vehicles, in Michigan that is the Secratary of State) and download a complaint form,, Fill it out, and file it.
The difference between the phrase "Pre Delivery where we fix any problems" and "Dealer charge, nothing gets fixed" is the kind of thing that can get a little yellow notice plastered on their door.

I called the Ft Myers Camping World when I wanted a Steer Safe put on. They quoted me $1,200. The SSafe costs around $380 and takes 2 hours to put on so either they are gouging or they don't know what they are doing. Mr. Front end in Punta Gorda a few miles away charged me $589 and did it while I waited. If your receipt states pre-delivery charge I'd turn them in as another poster stated.

We want to thank everyone for their comments and thoughts concerning our experience with Camping World Service Dept. We totally understand that it can be different from store to store - state to state! I think we just wanted to let anyone know - traveling thru south FL (Ft Myers area) to be aware of what we went thru. I find the GM and the Service Manager to be making all kinds of promises but since they aren't doing the work - it doesn't get done. I just requested all service records for our rig (even tho prior to our purchase) I can see they knew about issues - claimed to that replaced or repaired items but we found the same items needing attention. That is scary when you think about it. I intend to be upfront with CW top managers - they know I am not happy and I am connected to the internet!!!
I think what really bugs me the most is I don't want to be fighting anyone for anything. I don't want to be looking over their shoulder to see they did what they said they would do.
