Do you get AMBER alerts?

About 20 minutes ago my cell phone made a strange noise. It was an AMBER alert for an infant abducted about 300 miles from here. Curious, I searched for info about the alerts.

Surprisingly some of the first Google hits were instructions on how to disable Amber and emergency alerts. I'm shocked that anyone would object. I have only had 3 or 4 Amber alerts in the last 20 years.

If you are not getting AMBER and emergency alerts on your cell phone please check to see if your phone will allow these to be received. On my iPhone it was a matter of 2 clicks -- settings --> notifications then scroll down to government alerts at the bottom.

For more information about AMBER alerts --

https://www.amberalert.gov/index.htm

Over 880 children have been rescued by this program.

My wife's phone gets Amber alerts from all across the country. Often... Daily to every few days.

My problem with them is they usually come in at 5 or 6am. Way too early.

Two years ago in FL I was surprised to learn about 'silver' alerts... never heard of them before.

I don't think silver alerts have quite as wide of a coverage area as AMBER alerts. Remember one of those alerts could be for you or a loved one some day. I think it's a great program that has saved a lot of precious lives.
