Ed, Google even with their ads, sure beats the old days of going to the public library and pouring over out of town Yellow Pages to find a MH dealer not in our area. I owned my first class A before the internet, so it was pay local prices or nothing. Now we have a big choice.

It's not the search engine, it's the advertiser. I can pay money to advertise to any search key phrase I want. So if I want to run an ad for anyone who types in "newmar", I can do it. It might be expensive, but I could do it.

Hey also, the reason those ads show up for unrelated searches, is because some dummy hired "a company that can boost your ratings". Don't consider it EVER. If you think you need to run ads on google, buy Perry Marshall's book on google adwords - it will change the way you view advertising on google for the better x10000.

Yes Chuck, you and I are both old enough to remember those days. Google sure beats the old ways of finding information. I like the duckduckgo site. It seems to be a bit more intuitive for my needs.

Jay, I get approached all the time by companies that want to "improve" our web presence. We're a CPA firm. Our business growth comes from referrals and that's just fine with us. For us to pay someone to improve our web presence makes no financial sense for us. Doing good work at a reasonable fee is the best form of advertising for us.

My daughter got a master's degree in Telecommunications and learned a lot about Google search parameters and how to increase 'hits' on your page. It's a whole science.

I use AdBlock so I don't see annoying ads. On this page, it says it's blocking 14 ads right now. In addition, every so often I scan and delete cookies. Not all of them, I'd have to sign in to many pages I keep up and active, but if I look at something, like Ford, for instance, cookies get loaded and if I disable AdBlock I'd start seeing a bunch more ads for Ford. I prefer it to having to pay for using the internet more than I presently do. Advertising pays for a lot.

I LOVE "adblock" although I don't have it installed on my laptop because I actually find "some ads" useful. But I have it on my gaming PC, where I care nothing for ads

Are the "Sponsored sites" (Ads) annoying, Yes and no, they would be annoying if I payed any attention to 'em. but I basically do not. And I average well over 1 Google search a day. Have tried other search engines and frankly... Keep using Google.

BING! I quit using the google after I read how they go into your computer without your consent and index your documents and keywords to sell your data to advertisers.

I believe that to be an Urban Myth about Google. If you use proper firewalls and take moderate precautions, you are about as safe as you can be. You can avoid all these 'invasions' by becoming Amish. Get rid of all your technology.
Google did collect information from unsecured WiFi while cruising the streets with it's Streetview Cars. So you trust Bing! (Microsoft) to be more benign?? The NSA is collecting every email, phone call, and text. There is no privacy, all in the name of National Security and Business. If you don't collect kiddy porn or commit crimes on line, I suggest you get over it. They can throw ads at you, focused on your expressed browsing and interests, but ONLY YOU can click 'Order' or 'Buy' or whatever.

I use AdBlock too with Google Chrome and Google search engine. Bing?....no thank you.....and IE....slow and everytime I open it I get three to five tracking cookies that Norton eliminates. All those ads take up bandwidth too, so remember that when you are close to your max on a limited data plan.
