Do You Get Annoyed with Google?

Both Google and Yahoo make their money from selling advertising and I certainly get that, but it is still annoying when I plug in a search topic, such as Newmar and the first four or five listings are dealers who do not sell that brand and in some instances don't even have anything to do with what I'm searching.

I know that here in my practice we get ads constantly from companies that tout that they will increase our presence on the search engines such as Google, but how about just an honest straight forward search engine? Is that too much to ask?

I prefer Google over all of them but that's my choice.

There are many other search engines to choose from. Do a "Google" search for them and choose one that suits your needs.

These companies pay Google. Without them we would probably have to pay for our searches. A small price to pay IMO.

DuckDuckGo

There is a new one called DuckDuckGo. I have used it several times and it seems pretty good. The best part is there is no tracking of YOU while you searching for what you want. I learned about it recently from 60 Minutes.

I agree. I don't like the ads either, but they pay the bills for our free use.

Yep. If you want to use Google, it's what you get. I just try to be as specific as possible when I use a search engine so I get the most relevant returns for what I'm searching for.

I work for one of Google's largest, if not the, largest resellers. They helped buy my coach! If your search query is Newmar and the advertiser has a bid on that keyword they might appear on the top or right rail of the page. Everytime someone clicks on their ad it costs the advertiser and google generates revenue. Smart adveretisers do not bid on keywords that do not produce sales. JD

The first few listings are typically 'paid' listings, not necessarily what Google chose to be there but the advertisers chose the keywords to pay for those positions.

I think your annoyance maybe should have been directed towards the advertisers rather than Google.

Thanks Ken, I'll give them a try.

Maybe it's just my dislike of sites telling me what I'm looking for when all they are giving me is what they want me to see and not what I want to see. I'll gladly say goodbye to Google if Duckduckgo works out well.

Interesting with the fascination with animals with search engines like duckduckgo and dogpile, although dogpile doesn't exactly conjure up beautiful mental images.
