Dog Saves Woman:

Her eyes meet mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and I knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not to exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the over worked shelter keepers get to busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds to me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle finger tips caressed my neck, she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today"...................

Well, I guess Botox is as good a name as any, but of course I was kidding. Didn't you see the big grin? Just running out of Kleenex.

Very nice Sonny ! Our latest "kid" is a shelter rescue, (again) , a Great Dane mix. The day we went to look at her, the worker let her out in the small room with us, (DW and I) she (the pup, not DW) ran out and peed all over the floor... DW said "I'm going to get my check book.." .. The "kid", now known as Carley, is just the happiest little (80lb) bundle of joy you'd ever seen... Never had another 'accident', comes when called, etc... So lovey...

Geez Sonny, ... Now I am thinking about my 12.5 yr old lab. She has some issues now and knowing the day is coming only reminds me how much it will hurt. She's our third lab, and we will do one more big dog. Could never live without one.
Thanks to all who can take an animal from a shelter and give them a loving home. They give so much back it's crazy good.
Tom

I wonder why your post appeared just before two small puppies (around 8 weeks old) were found abandoned under an outdoor stage at the RV Park where I am staying.

As I type this one of those puppies is sound asleep next to me. I did not know why I adopted her. Now I know. I needed saving again as I was "between dogs."

Thanks much for posting Sonny.
