When the real person comes on the line i inform them that i am on the DNC list and then i take my ''signaling horn'' that is powered by a large can of C.O.2 and can be heard three counties from here, i put it to the phone just after saying... ''Please stand by'' very low into the phone so they will turn up their volume on their end. and then I BLOW THE C.O.2 HORN into the phone for three seconds .... Usually they dont call back.

I have yet to have a ''repeat'' call from a telemarketer...

Tks vets for our freedom of speech......

I like that. I want one too. I think I will go over West Marine and buy one of them.

My problem is I keep getting calls from a collection Agency in Buffalo NY. 716-240-6281. I answered it once and the person on the other end called me a *%&$#@+ liar, I don't know who the person they are looking for is and I have had this same telephone number for as long a I have lived in this house.....over 22 years.

We went from Pac-Bell to Cox-Cable Back to Pac-Bell then to ATT-Uverse and now back to ATT Telephone. Each time we have kept the same phone number. Our phone has been unlisted but now they want $7.95 a month for unlisted non published is even more. What a racket the phone company has.

I've actually tried a different approach and it seems to be working. I answer the phone, listen to the message about "lower your interest rates" and then push the button. I wait for the call center to put an agent on the line. Then I try to see how long I can keep them on the line. I often say" this is great, I haven't talked to a law breaker all day. When did you start being a law breaker?" I've had all kinds of reactions. Most of them say that they are just trying to earn a living. If I ask them if their former position was armed robber. A couple of them have resorted to gutter language to which I always reply "tsk, tsk, tsk."

The net of it is that the repetitive calls from the same organizations with different numbers have stopped. They must have their own do not call list for people who take up their agents' time. I figured if I made myself obnoxious enough, I could get on it. I no longer get the free cruise ticket calls either.

I just hang up on the political robo calls. The ones who will make them are too dumb to respond to anything that I could tell them.

I love these calls: when I'm bored and have nothing to do.
First thing I do is butt into their spill and ask how the weather is where there at; I just keep butting in every time they start their rant about their product. ask questions about their family; talk politics, and just about every dumb thing I can think of. Of course first; ask their name and ask them to spell it very slowly so you can write it down.

And if it's one of those robo calls; I just lie the receiver down and let them waste there time.

2- These people don't dial anyone, it's done by computer and held in cue until you pickup the phone and there is voice detected (hello?), then it's routed to an "agent", that's why there is often a delay or you are saying 'Hello' twice. SO, if there is a CID number I don't recognize, they have one shot to quickly respond after I say 'hello', and 95% of the time I've hung up before the computer can find an agent to forward the call to.
#2 - that's what I do. Getting damn sick and tired of these calls. Plus we're on the DNC list.

Do Not Call lists have an expiration date; I believe it is five years. I noticed a couple of months ago that I was receiving more unsolicited phone calls, I re-registered and the calls have dropped significantly.

No expiration time
Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. More than 157 million phone numbers are on the National Do Not Call Registry.

The above link is correct......when you read the entire page you will know who to thank for sell this info to the telemarketers.

Bottom line is that these people are mostly offshore and they could care less about a DNC list.

I read on my GD's FB about a tellamarketer she got a call from. He said she had "won" a cruise and it would cost $X to get it. She told him she would not talk to him while at work but would be glad to talk to him if she could call that night. He hung up.

I was re-reading this thread and my memory flashed_ya well, flickered. About 20 years ago, long before the DNC list, one Saturday morning I was eating breakfast and the phone rang. When I answered a woman promptly began speaking, didn't even seem to take a breath. When she finally paused, I asked how she got my phone #. She said it was an automated calling machine. I said I was eating breakfast and hung up. Twenty minutes later she called again, this time I took a different tack. I asked her name and where she was calling from, she said her name and she was calling from Chicago.
I said that is not far to drive, then asked if she fooled around. CLICK! She never did call again for some reason. Now, I didn't suggest anything wrong, her mind did. (ever go to the mall and just fool around?)
