Driver's Licence requirements

I was looking at a couple of articles on RVs and the driver's licence class required to drive the RV. Ontario appears to have the strictest laws on RV use. They require a class D driver's licence which is a commercial licence if the motorhome ways more than 11000KG (24,250 Lbs). Which would require a majority of class A motorhomes for the driver to have a commercial driver's licence. I'm curious what clss of DL do you need in you jurisdiction to operate a class A motorhome?

I'm not sure the majority of class a motorhomes exceed that number. Large DP's yes, smaller gassers no. But to answer your question, I think here in SC the number is 26,000 lbs before you need a special license. The same license is required if the combined lengths of the motorhome and something being towed exceeds some number which escapes me at the moment.

B.C. has no special requirements unless it has air brakes, then you need air endorsement. If you tow a 5th or trailer over 4,600kg then you need a heavy trailer endorsement.

Here in NY the magical numbers are 26,000 pounds and 40 feet. Beyond either of those two numbers requires an R endorsement. The test is kind of a joke to be honest with you and hardly anyone seems to be aware of the requirement including almost all DMV employees.
