What's really depressing about the December 21, 2012 prophecies is that day is the day after my 65th birthday. Work all my life to prepare for retirement, only to have the world come to an end. What a bummer!! Oh well, I guess it solves the Social Security and Medicare financial crisis.

Rusty. If it is any comfort to you, I have heard stories about a date the earth would end all my life (more years than I want to admit to). I just ignore it and blame the fanatics.

Cliff,

If it wasn't obvious, my post was a joke. I don't worry about things over which I have no control.

Texas gallows humor doesn't translate well on the Internet.

I could see you were being sarcastic but wanted to try and help.

Getting All Wobbly

'Woodydel' is quite correct. Having been in the Biz, the Satellite guys know all about Earth Wobble. From a 'moving' Earth perspective [Satellites aren't the part 'moving' here], Satellites appear to move in a sideways 'Figure 8' that increases and becomes more broad if left uncorrected. So, SOP is to fire little Satellite 'Jets' weekly to 'knock down' that effect so that signal receiving footprints here on Earth do not change significantly. The need to do this varies with the signal pattern [footprint] of the transmitting Satellite, and some other variables.

At this writing, I don't recall the exact precision these days. But, other Satellites can provide data with extreme precision to know how far Japan moved up -> down; East -> West; as well as knowing the amplitude up -> down of Seawater swells from a traveling Tsunami.

Worry not. Due to a lack of qualified trumpet players, the end of the world has been postponed indefinitely!

the earth moved 4 inches on it's axis.

My question is, why don't we have to re-tune our satellite dishes? Didn't everyone move 4 inches in a different direction after the quake?
The satellites are roughly 22K miles above us, 4 inches at that distance has gotta be a few miles

Somebody, please straighten me out
Hey Tincup,

I checked mine and actually have a better signal now!!!

You guys are funny. But for me it's serious. We shifted into a different zip code so there's all that legal paperwork and every year my neighbor has to water board his roosters to account for the one hour daylight time change. I told him not to bother with their crowing sequence but he's of German.

Hmmmmm, shifted into a different zip code, that would explain why my donation to alleviate the slaughter of South American baby Acrylics was returned to me.
