eBay update password email

I received an email from what looked like eBay indicating I needed to update my password by clicking on a link in the email. Of course I did not dot that and neither should you if you receive and email from eBay or anyone else requesting that you follow a link to change or update your information. Heads up

Thanks for the info.

I get spam from Ebay, PayPal, Apple, Itunes, and have been bombarded with spam emails from Nigeria.

Changed mine Friday, or whenever, afterthey notified people that they were hacked. It was all over the internet, strongly urging people to change their passwords.

I got this email.
NO links on it to click. Just go direct to eBay to your account.

Dear eBay Member,

To help ensure customers' trust and security on eBay, I am asking all eBay users to change their passwords.

Here's why: Recently, our company discovered a cyberattack on our corporate information network. This attack compromised a database containing eBay user passwords.

What's important for you to know: We have no evidence that your financial information was accessed or compromised. And your password was encrypted.

What I ask of you:
Go to eBay and change your password. Changing your password may be inconvenient. I realize that. We are doing everything we can to protect your data and changing your password is an extra precautionary step, in addition to the other security measures we have in place.

If you have only visited eBay as a guest user, we do not have a password on file.

If you used the same eBay password on any other site, I encourage you to change your password on those sites too. And if you are a PayPal user, we have no evidence that this attack affected your PayPal account or any PayPal financial information, which is encrypted and stored on a separate secure network.

Here are other steps we are taking:
  • As always, we have strong protections in place for both buyers and sellers in the event of any unauthorized activity on your account.
  • We are applying additional security to protect our customers.
  • We are working with law enforcement and leading security experts to aggressively investigate the matter.

Here's what we know: This attack occurred between late February and early March and resulted in unauthorized access to a database of eBay users that includes customers' name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth.

However, the file did not contain financial information. And, after conducting extensive testing and analysis of our systems, we have no evidence that any customer financial or credit card information was involved. We also have no indication of a significant spike in fraudulent activity on our site.

We apologize for any inconvenience or concern that this situation may cause you. As a global marketplace, nothing is more important to eBay than the security and trust of our customers. We know our customers have high expectations of us, and we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure online experience for you on any connected device.

I don't open any emails asking for something.

The emails from Nigeria come from different names claiming to be very ill and have picked me to inherit millions of dollars. All I need to do is reply with my info. I get these almost one a day. At first, I found it entertaining. Now it's just a little annoying. I just delete without reading any more.

I'm on eBay a lot buying for my Damon...so yes I saw the headline last week and immediately changed password. I've been victimized before so I'm in no mood for a occurrence.

For those people who hate thinking up a new password, there are a couple of free apps available that will randomly generate them for you. Count me as one of those who get a brain lock every time a new password is needed. With the password generator, at least I get something that I can tweak and tailor a bit to suit me. Then comes the problem of where to store the ever-growing list of passwords (safely). Once upon a time, I used one of those free password storage programs that required only one password for access. I forgot that password !! 😳

Again there was NO link in that letter for you to click.
The email didn't require or ask you to log in from it.

It was not a spam letter from eBay. But a real letter from them with info for only you.

With any link in a email. You can put your mouse on the link and see where that link will take you too.

I found that when I went to Ebay yesterday, it forced me to change my password before logging on. If you feel better doing so, just IGNORE the email and go straight to Ebay. Either way, you need to change your password ASAP as their records have been compromised.
