Egyptian Freedom

Today marks a step forward for world democracy. Let us hope that the new government is a non-sectarian democracy.

Don't go to fast. Our Leader is going to speak again at 1:30PM eastern.

He only left with $70 Billion.

I don't believe it for a minute. Another general will step forward to lead the "transition", and will still be there long after the 'fair and democratic' elections the populace is calling for. They have no infrastructure to support what the west would consider a democracy, nor does the predominate religion in the region support a democratic ideology.

I wish them all the best. May they come out of this in a much better place than Lebanon, Iran, Syria...

I have been following this event on CNN. The world's newest democracy is now emerging and the people are excited about their newly won freedom.

The military appears willing to foster the needs of the government until fall elections.

Time will be needed to organize candidates and political parties since none exist. I wish the Egyptian people the best of fortune and congratulations.

The world is joining the Egyptian people in welcoming them into the fold of democratic nations ... all except ahmadinejad. Keep your eye on "that" ball.

Social Networking works and for the 1st time and perhaps into the future the Internet's Facebook and Twitter have been key toward the task of "Nation Building". Remarkable!

Go ahead ... share your reasons! A one-liner doesn't do it for me.

Can you share what you know about Middle-Eastern politics?

Quite remarkable is that this was a peaceful transition of power. In our Revolution thousands were killed for our freedoms. In Egypt is started off with 1 guy getting killed in Alexandria.

Question Changes

Didn't we support at one time the Leaders of IRAN, IRAK ?
The Miltary had the BIG say in Egypt and will in the near future
= no changes at all.
Swiss and other countries froze assest from the former Leader and his friends.

I truely hope they have a democracy but I think Iran and the musilum brotherhood see a far differant future for Egypt. They will take complete control of that country if they have a chance at doing so. We as americans have always loved and cherished our freedom. We have always been ready to fight and die for freedom. We have to remember that the egyption people did'nt mind having a dictator until the money ran out and they could'nt be supported by the government anymore.

The Egyptians are much different than many middle eastern countries in that they are much more diverse than most people think. They do not want Islamic rule, they want freedom to believe and respect other peoples right to do so. They were one of the first countries to sign peace with Israel and have recognized their existence in peace for a long time. Good luck to the people of Egypt. You will find your way and it will be good. Next up, IRAN.

You know I was thinking about that. The Bolsheviks defeated the Tzars and formulated Communism. Today Russia is on par with other democratic nations. In Saudi Arabia I'm not so sure if that can be called a dictatorship or a monarchy. I'm sure there's a difference especially if the people allow it to flourish.

It was remarkable to me today where a man involved in all of this showed a book cover with a bust of Martin Luther King and Arabic writing over the picture.

Just like Gandhi, a non-violent revolution transformed a nation of millions. Now to that non-violent revolution use Facebook and Twitter as tools and as you can see the firestorm of peaceful revolution that got everyone into Tahrir Square.

I think that what really moved this issue off center was when the Egyptian government shut down the Internet. That really provided a lot of oxygen to the fire.
