Email scammers are busy!

Below is an Email I got this moring from a friend that my DW had been with yesterday. When I read it I told DW to call her now as this is the woman's Business address and there was no telling how many people had gotten it. DW called her and she answered " I know I know". All she had been doing was answer the phone. I looked in the properties of the Email and it showed it coming from her address but looking deeper I could see that it looked like it also came from a Hotmail address not her provider.
Be real carefull!

Hi,
Sorry to disturb with this email but I'm out of the country in Cyprus and I found myself in a situation which I really need to take care of now. Can I get a loan of $3000? I will explain better and refund the money back to you immediately I get back. Please email back as soon as you get this and please keep this between us.

Thanks
(her name)

Before I retired I was an ISP for almost 20 years and several friends have asked for help when their accounts were hacked... What I found was the scammers are hacking the users account and sending the e-mail from the users account. They also changed the account so they get a copy of all e-mails that arrive in the account.

Your wife's friend needs to change her password on the account and check for any changes such as forwarding.

There are all kinds of email scams floating around, such as delivery notices, failed delivery notices, failed deposit and transfer notices, traffic tickets, etc., all with a PDF attached. If you get one, even if it appears to be legitimate, DO NOT CLICK ON THE PDF! Doing so will release malware onto your computer.

But, have heart. There is justice.

A few of my few friends got an e-mail from me stating I'd lost my Passport and wallet in London and needed $2,000.00 from them to get everything straightened out and get home.

Fortunately, one of the recipients is a former SAS friend living in London, who was able to track down the perp living above an Indian restaurant and paid him a little visit.

Problem solved (but I did have to change my e-mail password).

Last year, someone that I know, had their hotmail account hacked and the hackers sent out- to everyone in her contacts- a similar message.

They were pretty good because she was in Spain- at the time- and the spam e-mail said that her hotel room was robbed and all her money and passport was taken. She, desperately, needed $xxx to stay in the country while waiting for the US Embassy to get her, and her family, new passports.

It was very well done. The bad thing is that she found out pretty quickly that she got hacked (as someone called her cell) but never sent out a follow up message (once she shut down her current hotmail account and started a new one) saying it was a hoax. She was then irritated at all of her contacts that contacted her to see if she was okay.

PNWGirl,
Basically the same message that my people got.

Hondo,
The whole story is rather funny but I can say that particular computer will not be sending any more messages. Also, Scotland Yard was notified and that suckah was a little bruised when they got to him but is now safely in the "Nick".

It's good to have friends in random places all over the world.

I love it when a plan comes together.
