Engine tuners?
I'm sure this has been discussed to death already, and if so, I apologize for bringing it up again!! What are your opinions on aftermarket tuners? I recently bought a 2011 Ram 3500 with the 6.7 Cummins. Would it be worth the money to buy a tuner for it, or is it just a bunch of hype?

Welcome to iRV2.
JMHO: Tuners and chips can void your Cummins warranty; or the transmission warrant from Dodge; and are detectable , even if removed before your truck goes in for service at a Dodge dealer.
First thing I had to do while doing warranty repairs at Dodge , was to hook the truck's ( Cummins) ECM directly to the factory so they could look for the signs of the device. Cummins had to authorize every repair before the work started.

Illegal for them to deny warranty work UNLESS they can prove the modification caused the problem (see Moss-Magnusson Act). But Dodge is famous for doing this and it then becomes up to the owner to prove otherwise. By then it's cheaper to pay for the repairs which is what Dodge wants.

Agree Mr D....
but the mfg's have a LOT more money and attorney power than we do...
All they have to say is NO repair, they flag your engine as being 'tuned' and you WILL have questions from then on out...
Now,if your AC goes out, they probably will fix that, but anything drivetrain related will be a fight...
back to the OP's question? is it hype
no, not at all, back in the day, I saw many a tuned deezles that had more HP than the dyno's could register ... so it's not hype...
it's ya better be able to pay, if u wanna play !

Most auto tuners have ways to erase 'shadow codes' that do not light CEL/MIL but are present when fuel or boost exceeds factory expectations (and they also allow the ECU to be reset to factory). Now if the motor isn't running or you have a failed drive train part you still might be in trouble $$
I would stick with bully dog or banks or some of the other more widely known

I am running a Economind Diesel tuner from Banks. I mostly run the economy setting. You will need a good Boost and EGT gages if you do anything and even if you don't. There is a fallacy that you can't run high EGT temperature in stock tune. The best way to protect your engine is to know what's going on.
I would do it again if I got another Cummins.

EFI Live is the best Tuner that is now available on the market for the Cummins engine in the Ram. Also you will need to run some sort of moitor that will allow you to see Boost pressure, EGT temps and what ever else you would like to view.
I have an 08 with a Smarty S67 and three gage's that moitors Boost pressure, EGT's and my trans temp. I run the Smarty on level three for towing and have been this way for 80,000 + miles.
I am also my on warranty station, and I have had zero issue with the Engine and powetrain.

I'm using a Smarty Jr on a 5.5 wit a 20 HP increase and torque tweak and fuel tweak for towing, without I had problems with High EGT at higher altitudes and with the change it is quite manageable in fact, it's great, they advertise better milage but I have not seen that, the HP choices in My Smarty Jr are 20, 40 and 100, but I have a stock transmission and don't want to hurt it. I have been using the smarty JR for 65K miles and total miles on my truck is 188K.
