I've read the article and seen it discussed around the internet.

The article talks about 60 bucks a night at Holiday Inn and then compares it to 180+ bucks a day for nursing home.

Big difference from a nursing home vs. some place to live.

My parents just moved into a beautiful assisted living place for a little more than 2 grand a month.

It's in a very nice neighborhood has a ground level private entrance, 2 huge bedrooms, 2 huge zero entry bathrooms, a nice kitchen with full size appliances, laundry room in the apartment.

Second floor units without a private entrance are less money.

The place has a pool, hot tub, exercise room, common rooms where my dad can play euchre, 2 restaurants, transportation if they need it to all the local stores and restaurants, and things like physical therapy onsite.

It's right on par with the Holiday Inn prices but a whole lot nicer.

Holiday Inn compared to a nursing home is cheaper but the Holiday Inn isn't going to be happy about cleaning up after you soil your bed a few times a day or need help getting washed etc...

If my 83 year old parents go downhill they are already set up for care in their unit and if igets really bad they are first in line for the nursing home on site.

Of course those services will add to the monthly bill but it's services Holiday Inn does not provide.

My point is the story is really flawed in it's comparison.

I met a woman who was in her mid 80's on a cruise ship a few years ago that was doing this. I sat and talked with her a bit one day, she was close to full timing it on cruise ships, spending over 280 days per year on cruise ships (mostly Princess Lines), in between she would go visit her daughters. She had spent the previous 6 weeks on the same 7 day loop cruise, and was about to depart that ship to go spend the holidays with one of her daughters. She told me that the cruise staff were very attentive of the needs of their regular customers such as herself, that the medical team would check in with her to make sure her health was ok from time to time, etc. and of course by cruising that much she received all sorts of perks, free upgrades, and discounts.

As to the Hobo side of the conversation, I had a great uncle who did the also rode the rails during the depression, he was born in the late 1890's so was about 30 years old when the great depression began, he and my grand father worked on various work projects in the great depression, mostly building water towers in Texas and the western states, though my grand father who served in the Navy in the late 1920's also worked on building Hoover dam.

Hey tag, if I may ask where is this place located?
