Fake Chase email

Do not be fooled if you get this email and alert anyone you think might be fooled, that it is fake. I went to the link at the bottom and it loads a page identical to the Chase login page.

I knew is was fake all along and entered fake sailor talk for a login and the page would not load. The real tip-off is the URL below of the page the link at the bottom takes you to.

H**P//onlineupdates.is-a-geek.org/mui/login.php

Below is the original email. I have no idea what the line at the bottom is all about.

The grammar and spelling is so good, I don't think it is off-shore Phishing.
I also don't think off-shore scammers even know what a geek is.

Legitimate financial institutions will NEVER ask you to input your credentials in an email. If you have one that does, switch banks NOW!

X2... Thanks
Chase Card Service has been one of the best we have had. I travel a bit for work (yeah I know I shouldn't be using 4 letter words on a family forum) but they have, within the last year, called DW when they see unusual activity on our account and twice someone had hacked our number. We always keep close tabs of where we use the card. Both times there had been recent purchases at our local WM. Hmmmmm Imagine that?

Thanks Dunner!

I got a very similar email a couple of weeks ago telling me my Chase Visa account had been blocked and to go to their link to clear the account and update my information.

I ignored it and it went away.

I've used that account for many years traveling all over the world and I know that Chase will CALL my cell phone if there is ever a problem or a question. Even then they don't ask me confidential information. It might just be to confirm that I made this or that purchase at a certain location.

It's sad to think of how much of this stuff goes on.

Rick

Yeah, they have called me when they thought my card had excessive use when I fueled up in Yuma.

Rick, at least you're not with that POS BOA. I can't say what I want about them, except they gouge their customers.

That's funny. I got one of those calls a couple of years ago when diesel was >$5/gallon in California. I told the guy on the phone that, yes, I was making the purchase. His reply was.... "You're spending $435 at a GAS STATION???"
Sad but true.

Not only Chase, I get the scams from BOA, and Citibank telling me my account is behind, has a large sum of money, etc. I do not have any association with any of them. I wish we could find a way to shut down the scum that keeps sending this garbage.

Do not click on any links in an email if you suspect it is a phishing attempt. That click could lead you to a site that is infected with malware.

I don't have anything to do with BOA and have gotten those scams too, but they were no way near as genuine looking as this one.

Gary, I worry about that too, but thought is was to not open any email attachments. I never do that if it looks suspicious. I got an email with an attachment from a member of the forum and had to think twice as to who it was before opening it.

As stated, do not click on any link in an email that you hve not solicited or do not know the exact source of the information. Web sites can have malicious code buried in it that will activate as soon as the page is loaded. They can harvest information from your computer.

It is just not a good idea to click on links in emails.

Good luck.
