Fire Pits - Caution needed!

Smoke bothers my asthma, so I wouldn't mind staying where there are no open fires, but I appreciate the fact that many people really enjoy them. I am not infavor of banning them except in dry areas where there is a definite fire hazard.

be careful with the elderly statement. Unless they are suffering from some other ailment, most can draw circles around other people with their wit and common sense.

True. Caution heeded (although staying in an RV park for the elderly, it is common conversation and the subject of jokes here, about forgetfulness and all, even without dementia)

Let me get this straight:

They took ashes OUT OF a firepit and dumped them in the brush?

Why would anyone, no matter how brain dead, remove ashes from a firepit before vacating a site?????

At one park we hosted at had a dumpster fire that was determined to be hot charcol.

It wasn't an aemployess as all charcol was placed in a metal pail with a lid, for 24 hours before disposal.

I too was wondering why they took the ashes out of the firepit? The parks I frequent have the park workes shovel the fire pits out when they get full.. Other wise we just build out fire on top of the last guys ashes.

Someone who brought their own portable fire pit and didn't want to take the ashes with them in the RV?

I read the op as a portable fire pit , owned by the dumpers. We need a little more explaining here.

I just read it as a privately owned fire pit of the variety that is portable.

Let me explain. The campers left their site around 11 the next morning and they left their trailer at the campground. They were observed by the employee walking across the campground road and dumping the pit in the brush behind my motorhome. They then left leaving their trailer and drove away. Shortly thereafter the employee saw a fire begin where he had observed them dumping the ashes. The employee had to come across the property and thru a locked gate to get to us. The fire was raging by the time he got to us.
