I just installed Firefox 9.0.1(latest Version) and want to know what add-ons I should install. I have already installed Adblock Plus and with the thousands of other ones out there, I just wonder what must have, can't live without add-ons I should install. I don't want any "toys" just yet. Just ones that make FF easier.

I'm migrating from Opera 10.10 and miss some of the functions it has, but it also has some compatibility issues. Also, Google is different with FF. Actually, a lot of things are different with FF. Are there any options I should turn on or off?

Extended copy menu (Fix version)t x-marks and/or last pass.

I like some of the tab-mix plus options and colorful tabs (Not needed but colorful)

Web Mail Notifier if you use web mail. and I recommend the use of web mail. (Safer than mail clients like outlook express) If you use web mail then web mail ad blocker.

I also have search engine orginizer and IMDB search but those are things I need, you may not.

Forecast Fox is nice You can enter the zip code for any RV park in the country and it will automatically check (in)accuweather for you and show you their best guess.

(Ok, the forecast)

Browse Suggestion though. don't go overboard on add-ons or it will take till next year to load and run.

I'm comfortable with Outlook Express.

(I'm on a MAC - and those that run on a PC I run there also)
I run as ad-ons:
1Password
Adblock Plus
Cooliris (don't use it much)
CoolPreviews (use it extensivly)
DownloadStatusbar
DownloadHelper
Flagfox
PDF Download
WOT

I run as Plugins:
Cooliris embbedded in tab
Flip4Mac Windows Media Plugin
Google Earth Plug-in
Google Talk NPAPI Plugin
Google Talk Plugin VIdeo Accelertor
IPhotoPhotocast
Java Applet Plug-in
QuickTime Plug in
Shockwave Flash
Silverlight Plug-in

For the plug ins, the Google plug ins are downloaded when you download some of the Google apps, like Google Earth. Same for some of the other plug ins, Quick Time, Silverlight, Shockwave, etc.,

What I don't like I can disable and/or remove.

Good luck.

Reading some of those descriptions makes me not want to get on the internet at all anymore.
It's almost like there are cookies to track cookies.
Pathetic what people will do to make a buck.

The Firefox I use has a checkbox.

"Tell web sites that I do not want to be tracked." and I checked it.

How do I know some of these add-ons aren't actually adding to the tracking?

Since I really do not use that many ad-ons, and the plug ins are software generated, the little research that I have done on the subject indicates that the ad-ons themselves do not add to privacy tracking. There is another add-on, and I do not have it, called "Better Privacy," and it is 'supposed' to keep things more private.

Another thing you could do, is each time you start Firefox, start the "Private Browsing" segment under the "Tools" menu. It seems to work for me.

BetterPrivacy

I'm not so sure I want to put too much faith in a company with so many grammatical errors in their description.

To add on Desktop. Copy the link in address bar.
Then go to your desktop.
Right click on it....Pick "New" then pick"Shortcut" then paste the link..click next

Or minimize Firefox so part of desktop shows, and then drag the link from address bar to Desktop.
