Florida's strange laws
Something really strange happened to me almost a week ago and I'm just now able to share it.
I was driving the Jeep and was approaching an intersection to make a right hand turn. I noticed an older couple standing too close to the curb, so I slowed way down because they looked so frail that I was afraid they would fall into the street in front of me. I noticed they had a cane in between them and that it had two curved handles, of which both had a hand on for support - never seen one of those before.
Anyway, as I slowly past them, they must have stuck the two handled cane into the street and it caught the front fender well of the Jeep and ripped it out of their hands. I heard a metallic clunk and then a sharp 'crack' as the rear wheel ran over the cane. I stopped immediately and jumped out to see if they were hurt. Thankfully, they were still standing at the curb, but when the old woman saw the cane she started screaming "Oh our cane, our beautiful cane"!
I tried to calm her down by telling her I would gladly replace it. It didn't work. Apparently this thing was custom made in Canada and would take months to replace. I told her I would pay for a couple of cheap canes to use while waiting for the replacement. Nothing worked...she pick up the broken(still in one piece) cane and continued to chastise me and she demanded $900.00 to replace the cane. It was a thing of beauty, but in NO way was it worth nine hundred dollars! Again, I told her I would pay for the replacement but only if the receipt was made available to verify the cost of the two handled cane.
This didn't satisfy her either and in her rage, she started hitting me with the damaged cane. Geez, for an old lady she was strong. It hurt so badly, I retreated into the street and was almost hit by a passing police car. He jumped from his car and got between me and the out of control old woman...he managed to take the cane from her.
Well, to make a really long story short, the next thing I knew I was read my rights, charged, handcuffed and seated in the back of the squad car. Six hours later, my DW bailed me out and my court appearance is scheduled in two weeks. Sorry for the length, but wish me luck. Bob
...
.....
Oh, I almost forgot. My question is: Does anyone know, if convicted, what the penalty for 'negotiating the street value of cracked co-cane in public' would be?

Jeeze. You really had me going there. I think you deserve 90 days in solitary for that.

You really had me going, but the answer is still the same: if you have to ask, you can't afford it!
