Free Shipping

I placed an order on Amazon.com for two small items. Each weighed only a few ounces and probably a tennis ball in size. One came from Japan and the other Chicago, IL. I got a notice both had left their respective warehouses on December 13 and were on the way by USPS. (the Japan one had to go into the Japan mail system first then to USPS.

The one from Japan (6,630 miles away) arrived December 17.
The one from Chicago (392 miles away) is showing that on December 20, it is still in the USPS Chicago facility!

Of course, the item from Chicago is a dishwasher repair part I need pretty bad.

The delivery services are hurting as they didn't get as many people hired for the rush as they wanted. I'm constantly getting in pkgs late at the office this time of year. Talked to our regular driver last week & he said they were 40 people short in the distribution center. Just not enough people in the centers to process the pkgs & not enough drivers to do the deliveries.

I have a package sitting at USPS in San Francisco (50 miles away) since yesterday. It is scheduled for delivery on the 24th. 5 days to go 50 miles, they must be using turtles or snails for delivery.

There is no excuse for it taking 5 days to move a piece of mail 50 miles. The USPS delivered packages to my home today (Sunday).

I finally got my package from Chicago! Lets see, the package from Japan moved at 69 MPH, and the package from Chicago moved at 1.3 MPH!!!!!

BTW the USPS tracking system is still showing the package is located in Chicago!

On the other hand, we got a UPS package and after talking with the driver for a few minutes while he was using his magic wand and scanning the bar code, I went in and checked the status of the package. Darn if it didn't show the package was delivered to our house "To Man" about 5 minutes prior! Now that is a good system.

Just received a package sent via FedEx SmartPost that utilizes USPS as part of the delivery process. It left Cumming Georgia on 12/12/15, Took five days to get to Atlanta about 25 miles away. Arrived in Asheville, NC on 12/22/15 and of course delivered to the wrong address. Oh well, at least it got here in one piece.

It probably was going between shipping districts (like zip codes) so Fedex put it on a plane or truck to the hub and back to the other distribution point where it is delivered to the local PO for next day delivery.

One of my bosses wanted to buy a Samsung Tab A for his Godchild. I ordered it, paid for expedited shipping. On Friday, 12/18 Samsung contacted me to tell me it was on back order and would arrive on January 5. (I'm in PA, boss is in Washington DC) Saturday I jumped in the car and head into the masses.....FOUND IT!!! Bought it, wrapped it, packed in into a Fed Ex box and on Monday I sent it his way!!!! I then called Samsung and canceled the original one.

Imagine my surprise on Monday when he called to tell me he had the tablet! The one I sent was till at the terminal....he got the one that was on back order. Called Samsung, was on hold for OVER 2 HOURS, and was then told that the system was down and they had no idea what was going on. The rep then said, "well, if the credit has been issued Merry Christmas, you got a gift for nothing!" I guess we will tackle straightening this out after the holidays.

I don't know... I guess I just look at things differently than many folks. USPS (post office) is a federal government entity. As such, the fact that they ever deliver any packages/mail is pretty impressive to me.
