I drive a natural gas Honda Civic GX for my commute. Fuel costs $1.89 at the low cost stations and $2.79 at the high priced stations. We make the fuel in America and it is plentiful. MH uses an outrageous amount of fuel but my car is cheap to run and own.

This is interesting. I assume the $1.89 above is gallons. If so, can you tell us what MPG you get? If not, can you tell us how many miles per fuel dollar spent is?

Tallk about a slanted article. The US is capable of increasing our production by 5 million bbls a day which would reduce the world price of crude. Daily world usage is about 85 million. ANWR alone is 2 mllion. We just have to have the political will to do it.

I don't want to hear that it takes so many days for the oil to get here. The same could go for when a leaf falls and they jack up the price of gas.

Remember 3 years ago gas was $1.79 or less than half of today's. I keep seeing all sorts of excuses, but it seems clear that until we elect folks that will go after our own natural resources we can expect this to continue.

And what happens when OPEC reduces their production by 5 million bbls per day in response to our increase? What motivation do the owners of the US oil wells have to do this? How will maxing out our production affect our reserves? How long can we keep that up? What happens when our reserves are gone?

What do you mean by 'go after our own natural resources'? Government seizure and state run refineries?

"We" and "our" is the problem I see in that sentance. The owners of the domestic oil is not the poeple or the government. The owners are the folks who have paid to buy the land, drill wells, put up pumps, and get it out of the ground, put it in barrels, and sell it. They sell it to the highest bidder. If that is China, then it goes to China. Short of government intervention (siezure), or a non-profit domestic fuel startup, this is the way it is and will continue to be.

Well if you think some private individual "owns" the land, you are mis-informed. Yes, many wells are on privately owned land, but the biggest reserves are in the gulf, and oceans. Governments own these or are in control of these until, some lobbyist who works for some oil company persuades some legislator to make it possible to get a lease from the government. If the government wanted, they could do like China and Russia and Venezuela, and control these wells by revoking every lease. How much do you think a gallon of gasoline is, in those countries? Corporations are out of control, and controlling many governments around the world with the promise of jobs for citizens. This is the greatest country in the world, but if you want cheap gas, you are going to have to give up some freedoms.

I don't think I twisted any words. Here's how I see it:

A) Private oil well owners selling their product on a world market
B) Prices on world market being manipulated by foreign cartels over which we have no influence.
C) No way to produce enough oil to overcome cartels market manipulation.
D) No motivation or requirement for domestic oil producers to stop exports or buck the current system.


This is a tough cookie to crack. I certainly don't see it as easy as you say, just 'stop exporting our oil and gas'.
