You're not. It's not.
And you ARE breaking the law.
Here's how it is DESIGNED to work:
You're in what you think is just like any other lane except that it's 'fast'. Someone approaches you from behind at 64mph (and you look down to see you're going 57mph and you switch to your smug 'justified' face because the sign says 55). While rather close in proximity, the driver begs you to move over.

As a FL driver nothing annoys me more when some self absorbed moron cant be courteous and stay the heck out of the left lane.
Most of them have out of state plates... which makes it more infruiating.

I agree.
I have learned to just wait it out. Not worth the anger!
And when the slowpoke law is enforced.....oh silly me! Never will be enforced enough to make any difference.
I have learned to just wait it out......
You?
Some prefer the moment of anger. But is it because there is no solution?
Yeah. No solution.

One driver decided that 75 was fast enough. Behind him was a line of at least 8 vehicles waiting to go by. At the first opportunity we all passed (on the right) while the driver obstinately kept his eyes focused straight ahead, no looking left, no looking right, no looking in the mirrors. Totally oblivious of the hazard he was creating.
This guy is dangerous and should not be on the interstate.

To my knowledge, only TX has speed limits in excess of 75 MPH. How about the hazard those speeding 8 drivers were perpetuating? If they obeyed the speed limit, wouldn't that have eliminated both "hazards"?

The fact remains that the law is typically "keep right except to pass." People should stop riding in the left lane, and should move over when others are obviously stacking up behind them. The "Keepers of the Speed" are so annoying.

Tell me Ray, using that same logic, why do roads in Nevada and Florida, where the land doesn't dictate the same of the road, have curves in them? Why not just make them as short and straight as they can?
Well the reason for that is that when highway engineering was in its infancy, they found that if they made a road straight as an arrow, people would fall asleep and run off the road. But it certainly stands to reason that IF everyone would remain alert, straighter roads would equal less fuel usage and less wasted time.
Fortunately, our highway system isn't designed on the arbitrary perfection required by these "IF" statements. We know is isn't gonna happen and to save lives these procedures are put in place rather than have dead people.
So one might also say, IF people would use common sense rather than imagine themselves as Sheriff Buford T. Justice, then we wouldn't be having this conversation.
