Georgia's new "slow-poke" law

Georgia is one signature away from passing this new law that criminalizes driving in the fast lane. Even if you are driving the speed limit, and a faster car approaches, you are required to move over and allow the speeder to continue on their way unimpeded. MSN Entertainment -

What does that say about Georgia enforcing speeding laws?

Good for GA!!! My question would be why a slower driver is in the passing lane in the first place.

I agree...If you are doing the speed limit and are forced to move over out of the "fast lane", I think this will cause more accidents with all the changing of lanes go on. Now throw in people talking on the phone, doing make-up..and changing lanes more often.....ouch !

Great idea, but good luck enforcing it.

PA passed a law similar to this but not such extreme penalties. It was basically meant to send a message, it is not really enforceable.

I do not see an issue with changing lanes. I consider it lazy driving to stay in the passing lane if you are not in the process of passing. Too many times on the open highway I see a person in the left lane with no traffic around.

How about a "big black dog" procedure. Brake hard, then just before they ram you, stomp on the gas. "But, officer, didn't you see that big black dog about to run onto the freeway?"

A dump-truck driver friend in the UK actually did an emergency stop on a 4-lane road when he spotted a police car tucking in to hide behind him. Front end of cruiser smashed in, no damage to truck, no ticket, thanks to "big black dog".

So your truck driver friend's intention was to wreck the police car?

Keep out of the fast lane except to pass, period! The exception is when in the city or large town traffic.

I don't understand why this is even being addressed as it is as common to stay out of the fast lane, and/or move over for faster traffic, as it stopping for a stop sign.

Now let's talk about those that don't know how to merge into traffic from an on-ramp, but slow down or even stop!

All IMHO

I agree Ed, Keep out of the Fast lane except to pass. I also think there should be a Nation Wide ban on Radar Detectors, the ONLY reason someone would by one is they are intending to break the traffic speed laws, there is NO other reason to have one. we have a lot of deaths on the high ways from speeders here in Utah and a large portion have Radar Detectors.

I stay in the passing lane in AR because the right lane will beat your coach to death.
I do move over if there is traffic coming up behind me though.

I didn't think Ga. had ANY slow pokes. Every time I drove thru or around Atlanta you HAD to do at least 15 mph OVER the speed limit or you got run over!

Good for Georgia.

This rule is enforced on most major highways in Europe.

Isn't it funny that road rage is being caused by those that are obeying the speed laws, versus those irresponsible people that think they own the road... Instead of cracking down on the aggressive drivers, the responsible people are going to be punished for making them mad...
