Just made my reservation at the 2011 Chunk in Del.
Anyone else planning to go play in the mud for 3 days?
It will just be Wayne, Diane isn't interested in crazy machines.

There is a guy here in western Colorado that is really into this stuff. He has made some of the most amazing machines that throw them. He is also a great ham radio operator.

There is boondock camping on the site. This is my first time going so I have no personal details. Here is a link to the Punkin Chunkin website.

Keep us posted on the events with LOTS of pictures and stories on what you did.
Always wanted to go, maybe next year.

We watched the show. Our 7-yr-old grandson was fascinated. I do take exception the the show saying it's the only event like it, as we have one in Burlington WA every fall.
The locals aren't quite up to the Delaware perfomance levels, but it got dangerous enough a couple of years ago, they moved the event for the bigger machines out of the city park to a farm with a lot more room. There are houses along one side of the park and there were some wayward shots that got much too close. Most of the machines are trebuchets. I haven't seen any air cannons here.
The smaller "chunkers" still perform at the city park.

I too am aware of other chunkin events, but Delaware's is the oldest and largest.
The chunk has been held at 3 locations, outgrowing the first two.

Well... The Delaware event IS the only World Championship event, and hence, tends to be the most over the top!
The first "international" entrant was from the UK in 2005. In talking to that team you can not imagine what they went thru at US Customs trying to import a tractor trailer sized trebuchet in those early post 9/11 times... Imagine trying to 'splain to 'da man that you are only going to use this giant contraption to sling pumpkins out in a farm field... Yea, right....
BTW People watching at the DE event is the second most interesting thing - the first being the machines themselves! I've been to the DE event at all prior locations as well... This thing just keeps growing.... And you need not be an engine-nerd to really enjoy it!

Been watching for several years, who says American ingenuity is dead. These folks come up with some pretty impressive rigs.
