Good Breakfast?!!
I love eggs. Scrambled, fried hard boiled, whatever. I also like bacon, sausage, etc. I like biscuits/gravy...but can live w/o it.
Anyway, BW is convinced I shouldn't eat so many eggs/bacon/sausage. She prefers I eat toast/peanut butter-jelly, poppy seed muffins, orange rolls, etc.
I have had 1 1/2 heart attacks, 2 stents, 1-4X bypass. My cholesterol runs 125-150 now and my Heart doc says I sure won't die from cardiac problems. I am on the borderline of being a borgerline diabetic. A1c=5, BS=105-120
I can handle the bread things 2x a week but I can't convince her that the eggs+ b'fast is ok.
Doc isn't committing.

A1C of 5 is a long way from Diabetic but BS of 120 is not

If it wasn't available 10,000 years ago, don't put it in your mouth.
In other words, ALL the hundreds of names for SUGAR and the modern day, fast rising bread are no good. Old style bread is ok.
Sugar is ok if your body has to work at digesting it - fruits etc.
Hostess Twinkies are ok too (if you're terminally ill and only have a few weeks to live)

I would put Ensure in the same class as Twinkies -along with Oreos. A good substitute for Ensure is Muscle Milk. It only has only 3 grams of sugar compared to 23 grams of sugar for Ensure.

Well. when it comes to Sugar.. Real sugar is not all that bad in moderation
High Fructose Corn Syurp...... Should be banned... Major health risk

you should only eat one egg three times a week and especially with your cardiac history. whole grain non sweet cereal with low fat or skim milk plus fresh fruit would be a better choice....but not as tasty as bacon and eggs.

One and one half heart attacks? I've only had one, cardio specialist told me to stay under daily recommended allowance for each ingredient, get lots of exercise and don't worry_the stress of worry is more harmful than eating in moderation.

I agree with everyone.
One problem is re: exercise... I am missing the bottom 4 discs in my back and cannot walk more than about 50'. I used to be 5'10" but now 5'7". Weight 210. Was 180 until I quit smoking back in 1995 (after the 1/2 heart attack).
Feel good but take 1/2 Percocet am and pm to help w/ the back pain.
I can get the BS down to 100 pretty easily w/diet.

Yer kinda lost on the "Good tasting Food Category" once ya head into the territory of Wives and Doctors, expect yer next good meal to occur after you've been ushered through the gates by St. Peter....

Take a look at an Atkins or South Beach type diet. These both allow for the kinds of foods we all like to eat but it takes the carbs WAY down. This is very good for weight control and will help with diabetes type issues as well.
Exercise is good, but this kind of diet is extremely good for those who can't, or don't want to, exercise.

hamguy there are many exercises we can do that involves the upper body-no walking involved. Remember cardiac rehab? The bicycle pedals mounted on a table to exercise arms, shoulders, neck; rowing machine looking machine, etc. Any exercise is better than none, I have a Weider gym set that focuses on upper body exercises, way to large to move about though. When camping I carry a couple of rubber strips bought at a local medical supply store. These allow me to exercise the upper body while watching TV, sitting by campfire, etc. Hang in there!

The feds have banned incandescent light bulbs too. The "unintended consequences" to this stupid act willl cost a large number of lives. Not to mention that when someone even mentions "MERCURY" the entire population gets their panties in a wad. The coiled bulbs contains MERCURY and you MUST contact hazardous material folks should one break. read:$$$$$$
And there are a number of other 'boogie men' hiding in the bushs yet to come out and bite us in the fanny.
Remember, for every government action, there is a greater and more destructive reaction!

I remember this from watching that guy on TV 30 years years ago.. what was his name? tall guy with brit accent. Did his show in white shirt and tie with an apron. Cant remeber
Break into a bowl
add tsp of water
Spice is as you like it then beat it so fine its blended completely.
Melt a little (very little) butter in a pan
All that is normal but here is where you can make a gourmet egg instead of a dried out McDonalds egg:
Cook it as slow as you can... over the lowest heat possible... always stirring.
Real low heat
Keep strring dont walk away for even five seconds.
It will look moist when its done and some people think it is not cooked enough but it is... its just not dried out and tastless.

Graham Kerr (also known as "The Galloping Gourmet") ... but I believe he had a bunch of stents put in his wife had suffered a heart attack and stroke...he has since changed his cooking habits - but he is still on TV!
