Good Sam phone etiquette

I called Good Sams main number to report a problem I was having with a GS program. Jennifer answered and asked for my membership info, name, address, phone number etc. which I gladly gave her. She asked for my name again and I responded "Chuck". She then said that was not the name on the account. I then gave her my Life Member number. No good she wanted my name ! Mind you, I had just called about an hour before and gave the same information and spoke with the party I was calling. After about 5 minutes of the name back and forth I then said is the name CHARLES ? Bingo, that was the problem ! I thought the name on the account was Chuck and it was Charles. Needless to say, by this time I was steaming.
My question is, Was I wrong or was she just pushing the issue unnecessarily ?

She was either being nit-picky or has lived under a rock for not relating Chuck to Charles. I'm thinking the former & she needs to brush up on her dealing with customers skills.

As with anything important when dealing with any account.........As seen on the account when you signed up............I am always asked.......Name as it appears on the account. Easy to do......as you only hear the name "Charles" when the DW is mad at you??????

Hi Chuck,

First, if you have a problem with their procedures, then you need to go to RV.NET and post the problem there as that is a Good Sam forum (not Good Sams as you mentioned).

Second, I've run across this problem before even with my (nick) name which is a derivative of my legal name (Ron/Ronald). Charles/Chuck could be two completely different names. I realize that Charles can be either Charlie or Chuck, but I think you can see where they might require you to provide your given name.

They are required by their rules to only go by what is in their records. You should not be upset with this as they are just doing their job as their employer requires.

Hope you got over your "steamingness". Have a great day.

Ron

Good Sam was 100% on point with this one. And, as mentioned above, they followed normal security procedure. The OP gave her his number - that was probably read from a card, which had the correct name on it, that one would think he would have noticed.
If anyone pushed to hard it was the OP.

Thanks for the replies folks. Could be I was getting a bit too cranked up and she was following the letter of the law. Although, I was calling them to report a problem that they were having with THEIR program. I have calmed down and looking forward to a fine tomorrow !!! :-)

Kind of like when a clerk asked me for photo ID when my photo is on the credit card. She said something like "company policy requires a different photo ID" so I showed my DL. I guess better safe than sorry.
