Good time to quit JAVA

Homeland security has put out a nationwide warning for all JAVA users to disable the software ASAP because of vulnerabilities opening up the door to hackers on your PC.
Just thought ya might like to know.
I've disabled it and see absolutely no difference.

I jumped up after seeing the evening news and checked our two computers. One didn't use Java and the other had version 6 which was not affected.

I have always said "I would rather be lucky that good" so we dodged the threat on this one.

First let me say thank goodness you didn't mean coffee and thanks for the tip.

When turning off Java make sure you don't turn off Java Script, web pages will become a problem with out JS.

Here is a link (one of many) that discusses Homeland Security's warning about Java. Homeland Security warns to disable Java amid zero-day flaw | ZDNet

I've uninstalled Java completely and have noticed an increase in speed (W7/IE9).

No need to panic
The patch is already out and it was just a bug in the software:

Version 7 bug

Read the article below:
News:
Disable Java? Here's how, after US agency warns of software 'vulnerability.' - CSMonitor.com

Then:
Verification site
Verify Java Version

and if you are running version 7 you may want to get the earlier version

To disable and more:
How do I disable Java in my web browser?

EDIT ADD ON
Also there is a auto update feature in the JAVA software if its on your pc. Be sure to have the auto update not CHECKED.

I don't have it on the MAC, and the browser plug-in has been disabled since way back when!

I use FF ver 18, and Mozilla automatically deactivated Java. I didn't even notice.

Same here. You have to just love something that works well and is free.

JAVAs been a security risk for a LOONG time... This 'fix' does not actually fix it. till best to disable, or better yet, remove JAVA. I did years ago..

As a side note, remove Apple Quicktime as well.. its buggier than JAVA is and is in the top 3 security exploits..
