I have a DAC SportSafe installed in my coach.

http://www.amazon.com/DAC-SPORTSAFE-...d_sim_sbs_sg_3

All of the good jewelry, cash, keys and passports stay in there. I have had it for about 5 years and it works great. It has a four digit combination. I bolted it down to the floor so that it would take some serious work to get it off. It looks like a electrical box, so I am looking for a "Danger, High Voltage" sticker to put on it. You have to open the full wall slide to get to it.

Did you get the keypad outside?

We have very little crime in my area. But, you all now have me thinking about it now so I may just buy one of these. I know it's only a deterrent but, in many cases a thief will leave if you make it too hard for him and every extra level of deterrent helps. Thanks for posting.

We rarely leave the MH UN-occupied because we rarely eat out (Budget) When at a rest stop we are always insight of the MH one of us is. I TRUST NO-ONE I worked hard for what I got and I'm not going to let some lowlife take my possessions. Sad to say but true, I have ADT on the S&B
off- soapbox

No, the control unit is self-contained with built-in keypad.

Sure sorry to hear of your loss. After reading several post like yours when we first starting Rv'ing, one of my first purchases was a safe from Harbor Freight and bolted it in the closet floor with through bolts. We have never used the door handle lock, only the dead bolt. The handle locks are very ease to open with a lock pick, I have done it. Also RV lock keys are easy to obtain and there are not that many different locks. My keys fit a neighbor that lost his key, but had a spare inside. Installing a door alarm is fairly easy and one will be on my new coach.

The sad part is we do have professional low life's that prey on snowbirds here in FL. They know snowbirds travel with cash and jewelry and RV's are easy targets for them.

Thank you for posting the "it can happen" and alerting others.

therein lies a problem .... master keys are all too plentiful for the door handle locks .... these master keys will not work on deadbolt locks .... there are ways to open the deadbolts but doing so requires more effort that tends to draw attention .... the only time one should lock the door handle is when they leave the camper at a dealership for repair/service .... they have master keys

magnetic lock

How about a Magnetic Door Lock similar to the ones below. You would have to retrofit the lock and plate to install and determine how to power it and a remote to open it.

The way I look at it, jewelry and material things can be replaced, but our fur-babies cannot. Glad they were okay

Unless the video is being sent to a remote server it may be useless. The crooks will see the camera and tear the coach apart until they find the video recorder. They will then take it with them.

I think the crook would simply look for another RV to break in to.... Why should he work so hard when 99.99% DO NOT have extra security ?

I read some time ago that posting an ADT Security sign was a big deterrent. I know ADT controls the number of signs and stickers they provide to their customers for this very reason. I agree, why would a bad guy mess with an RV that has a security system when so many do not? Move on to easier pickings!
